Labour Ministry to issue anti-human trafficking operations report

BANGKOK, 5 October 2015 (NNT) – The Ministry of Labour is set to issue a report on its human trafficking eradication operations; it is certain that this years’ operations have shown significant improvement from the previous year's.

The Ministry of Labour has been in the process of publishing its 2015 report on its human trafficking eradication operations, to be distributed to related agencies beginning in October.

In order to strengthen the working process, the ministry will also revise its committee on the management of human trafficking prevention and eradication operations, which include labor protection, labor inspection, law amendment, and the overall operation system.

According to the Ministry of Labor Permanent-Secretary, Puntrik Smiti, this year's trafficking eradication operations have shown great improvement given Thailand has forged ahead with the required operations, including the announcement of ministerial orders in relation to workers in the fisheries and the agro industries, as well as strictly enforcing related laws.

In addition, the government, led by the Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha, has made human trafficking eradication a national priority that all sectors are to collaborate in order to solve the issue.

Yes, we have made great progress. Our navy has continued with prosecution against journalists who have published the issue, our courts have allowed cases to proceed against those who have highlighted migrant workers being treated as slave labour, we have used 2 burmese as scapegoats in a local mafia murder, we have discovered passport forgers responsible for bombings, our junior military personel are employed as servants for the generals and we have shut down all those people who wish to raise the problem in the interests of protecting the good name of the country.

We are also investigating control of social media so that the issues cannot be discussed and reported.

When they are no longer reported, there are no more problems, right?

MY PREDICTION: This report is going to be glowing with praise for Thailand's fight against human trafficking.

The sad truth is any advances on trafficking in Thailand this year only came about after some one or some group stumbled on mass graves and when the EU put the screws to Thailand's fishing industry with threats of banning the sale of their products in the EU. Only then was anything done.
