CDC spokesperson says draft framework is in accordance with interim constitution

BANGKOK, 10 October 2015 (NNT)-Charter Drafting Committee (CDC) Spokesman Amorn Wanichwiwatana said the committee has finished discussing the framework of drafting the constitution. The framework is in accordance with article 35 of the 2014 interim constitution. The committee has also discussed the five-point working guideline given by CDC chairman Meechai Ruchupan.

On October 13th, the CDC will listen to opinions from various independent organizations. The spokesman added that he didn’t expect any obstacle to the constitution drafting process as the working framework has been in according with Article 35 of the interim constitution. However, he said that a difficulty might arise in the process of adding the comments from various sectors to each article. Some problematic issues might have to be shared with the public, in order to get their opinions on the matter, before completing the first draft of the charter in January 2016.

"Section 35 sets out 10 requirements which must be in the new constitution, such as the provisions saying Thailand is a monarchy, the establishment of a democratic government which is appropriate for Thai society, and the prohibition of change of some principles to be contained in the new constitution."

One thing about the new constitution is that it is NOT about change from the 2014 draft. Meechai can be trusted to delliver the Junta's agenda, maybe even in more detail than before.
