Bangkok airport has served 52.4m passengers in past year

BANGKOK, 14 October 2015 (NNT) – The general manager of Suvarnabhumi Airport, Sirot Duangrat, announced that the number of passengers from October 2014 to September 2015 stood at 52,383,686, a 12.66 percent increase from the previous year. The manager added that improvements will come at the airport such as renovation and extension projects to increase the capacity of the airport.

The Airports of Thailand (AOT) confirmed that in the past year there have been 310,867 flights and 1.28 million tons of cargo.

There has been a total of 43,946,533 international passengers, a 15.55 percent increase, while the number of domestic travelers shrunk by 0.34 percent, totaling 8,437,153 passengers altogether.

Mr. Sirot also said that the airport saw a 7.09 percent increase in international flights and a 2.81 percent increase in domestic flights. The airport also served 1,288,087 tons of cargo, representing a 0.71 percent expansion.

The AOT now projects that passenger growth will increase by 12.7 percent in 2016. In order to meet the demand, there are plans to renovate the current terminal building and include more benches, charging points, and airline lounges, along with toilet renovations, in order to better facilitate passenger service.

Someone check my arithmetic please.

6000 an hour 24/7

Correct.

About twenty 747 sized aircraft an hour, one every 3 minutes.

But 310,867 flights in 12 months equates to 36 an hour one every 100 seconds.

Wikipedia lists Atlanta as the worlds busiest at 96 million and has Swampy at 42 million.

I think you could put Swampy in one of the concourses in Atlanta,

This sort of stuff would not be allowed on Saturday Night Live as it would be too stupid to be funny.

I really, I mean really, well very really can't seem to understand how the Thai/s can listen to this stuff and not burn down the police station.....Oh.....

The airport expansion is still being debated, and it'll be 10 years down the road. Whether you're talking about 45M or 65M, it's going to get a lot more crowded.

"Swampy at 42 million."

So, 50M = 6000 people per hour, and you find that unbelievable. But 42M = 5000 people per hour seems reasonable to you.

The article does not mention how many millions the airport made from that 52.4m passengers...

You can calculate it. Multiply by 700 THB for international departed passengers and multiply by 100 THB for domestic departed passengers.
