sai yok to bong ti pass

Featured Replies

just tried making a trip to bong ti pass border crossing just to have a look, the road seems to end about 1 kilometer from the border then just a very rough dirt track, through the jungle, just wondered if anyone else has tried to get to bong ti pass border, the road on the burma side according to the map looks like a well developed main road to tavoy

Only locals are allowed over at this crossing. Ok for foreigners to have a look at the actual gate but that's all :)

Last time I was up at the border it was very quiet. One of the locals said it was earth track all the way to the next real village, 50 kms! and as above only locals can cross.

Been up to actual border there which is +|- 2-3 km from last Thai checkpoint manned by 1 friendly border police guy. On Burmese side theres the army. The "main" road on Burmese side is ok and goes to htee kee (approx 40km) or dawei. Locals are Burmese (karens) who are allowed in for eg. Hospital visits in bong ti village but as no border passes are issued/stamped they cannot go any further.
