Air con removal and relocation

Recommended Posts

Going to move a couple of air con's from our current home to new home. I'm a sparky so disconnecting no problem. Is it just a matter of cracking the gas pipe nuts and separating the units? Should I block the pipes with rag etc to keep clean? Will only be disconnected for a couple of weeks then reinstalled by a pro

R 22 is illegal to vent into the atmosphere. Additionally, it can blind you if you get it into your eyes.

What do u suggest mate? Get someone in and uninstall? Venting gases into the thai atmosphere hmmm. See every day

You can trap the liquid refrigerant in the condenser (outdoor unit) by shutting off the condenser discharge valve with an allen key with the compressor running. Once the evaporator has evacuated you then shut off the low pressure valve on the condenser unit. All the refrigerant is now trapped in the outside unit and can be reused after you have split the system and moved. When it is rejoined, the system (except for the condenser) will need to have the air purged (and possibly a new dryer) or evacuated before the refrigerant can be released from the condenser unit. No guages or special equipment is required to collect the liquid in the condenser.

Thanks mate. Where is the condenser discharge Allen screw? How do I know when the gas has evac? Where would the low pressure valve be?

Hi Kenny. The two valves you need to access are on the side and near the bottom of the outdoor condenser unit, possibly under a plastic cover. The larger insulated one is the suction valve and is shut off last. The smaller thinner line is the liquid line and this is the valve you shut off first with the aircon running. They will both possibly have a brass hex cap over them.

Mate I am on my phone at present so a bit hard to attach info. For now look up "how to pump down a split system aircon" on youtube or google. I will get back later.
