Time for passengers of Thai buses to be given airbag body suits and helmets.

Surprised that the trees weren't blamed, to be honest.

When he recovers enough he will suddenly remember the headlights of a car blinded him...

At least they didn't call it a tourist bus this time.....seems this is almost a weekly event. Overnight bus rides are very dangerous here.

The official report from the bus company isn't in yet.

Seat for driver clearly at fault: much to comfortable. Install electric zappers that fire every 10 minutes or so to keep them awake. Problem solved

Local news is saying he hit a power pole not trees, in the scheme of things a bit irrelevant as people got hurt. Different news different views I think

Note to self: avoid night buses. I'll add that to the list of avoiding all public transportation 24/7, as well as not travelling in anything but an armored hummer with full battle gear on.

I was a little worried at first, that 24 that trees had been hurt. What a relief when I read the full post whistling.gif

Looking at the photo in the OP, it appears a cyclist was first on the scene. <deleted> was he doing on a main road in the dark?

Biking for Dad. All the rage these days.

He was steering with his feet, while, watching the crazy thai soap on the bus TV, and smoking a bucket at the same time.whistling.gif

If he was first on the scene, he had one hell of a set of bike lights!

I'm not so sure - I'm no statistician, but are they that dangerous when you look at the sheer number of long distance overnight buses here?

probably the bus driver was looking for a tree to pee at.....

I can't say there's any scientific, statistical analysis here, because we don't have access to the data.

But I can say, from reading dozens and dozens of Thai bus crash news reports over the years, that these kinds of crashes involving inter-city buses most commonly seem to occur in the general hours between say midnight and 7 am or so.

Not a great surprise there, considering the common crash factors of drivers falling asleep at the wheel, making mistakes due to fatigue and overwork, drunken drivers on the roads during those hours, darkness and poorly lit roads, etc etc.

Wonder if the passengers 4 rows behind the driver once seated at Mo-chit realised they were sat above the gas cylinders..?..!
