BANGKOK: -- About 1,000 red-whiskered bulbul were seized from a public bus in Uttradit province by police on Friday.

A police unit led by Pol Col Didsayadet Patcharapuwadon, superintendent of Uttradit’s Muang district police set up a roadblock in Tambon Ban Da Na Kham after a tip-off that a large number of red-whiskered bulbul, a protected species of bird, were to be delivered from Chiang Rai to Bangkok by a public bus.

The police stopped a Transport Company’s bus from Mae Sai district and conducted a thorough search which uncovered the birds in ten plastic cages of 100 each.

The driver, Mr Jaranai Kaewmark, told the police that he was paid to deliver the birds to a customer in Bangkok who will then sell them at the Chatuchak market.

I think no one ever got the idea to check the Chatuchak park, or?

Put these guys in a zoo for a few weeks - let the public terrorize them and force them to sing for their food. bah.gif

I think no one ever got the idea to check the Chatuchak park, or?

Or have the bus driver tell them who he was delivering the birds to?

They should also ban possession of these animals.

Yes, they are protected. The locals in my area keep them in cages for safe custody..........

Amazing Thailand , always coming up with something to keep the tourist industry occupied ..................................coffee1.gif

Anything for money. Thai greed is just appalling.

They should also ban possession of these animals.

You see them everywhere in wicker cages, being transported on motor bikes or hanging outside shops. Quite obviously, CITES laws are never enforced.

aeh yes.....I am too long in Thailand I also forget the obvious....

A thorough search was required to find the 10 cages (shown in the photograph).

Blind as well as corrupt!

In case you've never seen one, here's what they look like.

yep it seem Chatuchak must pay the BIB more... cos they care about what goes on there at all...
