Temporary SIM in UK

Featured Replies

Can anyone recommend a temporary SIM card I can buy when traveling in the UK?

I might be in remote places and want to be able to connect to the internet.

giffgaff are about the cheapest for pay as you go, just order a sim on line to be sent'

otherwise most large supermarkets will supply a payg sim.

Three's 321 SIM can be cheaper, as can EE £1 packs if you are a low user. It all depends on your pattern of usage.

If you top up the Three SIM up by £5, you get an 150MB allowance for free. http://www.three.co.uk/Store/Pay_As_You_Go_Price_Plans

A good deal if the OP can order online for delivery to a UK address, is this EE SIM for £0.99p which contains £5 of credit.

But if the OP needs a lot of data, then he won't find better than this 100 GB per month EE SIM

I usually go into a Carphone Warehouse, they stock just about every SIM and are usually more knowledgeable than a supermarket: carphonewarehouse.com/sims/pay-as-you-go/pay-as-you-go-sims

Don't buy at the airport

Nothing wrong with buying at the airport if something like the 321 SIM will do. Top it up by a fiver online and that will suffice for basic access.

Might be going to the UK soon myself.

Are the 3G bands there the same as in Thailand?

2100 MHz So yes, but only because Thailand conformed recently.

4G is 2600 MHz.

I still have an O2 payg card tucked into my passport. Does anyone know whether/how easy it would be to top it up while in Los so that seamless travel back to Uk around easter will deem me contactable in UK as soon as I touch down?

(Taxi, Accomodation on arrival an' all that-everything is booked but I could potentially be snookered if anything goes wrong!)

As easy as this Though you should check if it's still live if it hasn't been used in a while, before topping up.

Thanks, I seem to recall trying that a few weeks after getting back but not getting anywhere. I'll have another look :)

I use Giffgaff, it runs on the O2 network. My job takes me out and about all over the south of England and outside of the towns 4G is not very good, 3G slightly better but frequently its very difficult to get a strong enough signal for the internet to actually work. Reports that Ive heard suggest that EE is probably the best 4G coverage, so go that route if you can.

Couldn't agree more. Just ended my wife's 02 contract as 4G was next to useless and moved her to EE 4G whom I have been with for some time.

Not many networks kicking this sort of 4G in London and none too shoddy outside of London either.

Are the other providers that use the EE network ? The speed numbers are very god :-)
