I have a well water filtration system and need a source to buy either evaporative or pelleted salt to regenerate my resin tank.

The supplier of the system reckons about ฿3000 for a 50 kg bag, this seems excessive.

My water is iron rich and very hard so regeneration of resin is a weekly affair!

Do not use and am sure salt sellers will claim only there salt can be used. Here in Bangkok do use for dishwasher and have bought from roadside stalls along highway 35 in Samut Songkhram for many years. They have all grades and size of dried sea salt available so might be worth taking a pickup truck trip (or stop on return from a Hua Hin visit).

I buy already several years just normal kitchen salt at the Makto for this purpose. It is iodised but that does not seem a real problem. My raw water has a hardness from 37 DH. I regenerate once every 25 Days.

Thanks. The sea salt along the 35 is evaporative salt. Just what I need. I don't go that way very often. Guess I might find some in local markets up here. That said it seems iodised salt works ok.

Taking too much iodine can also cause problems. This is especially true in individuals that already have thyroid problems, such as nodules, hyperthyroidism and autoimmune thyroid disease. Administration of large amounts of iodine through medications (ie Amiodarone), radiology procedures (iodinated intravenous dye) and dietary excess (Dulce, kelp) can cause or worsen hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism.

In addition, individuals who move from an iodine-deficient region (for example, parts of Europe) to a region with adequate iodine intake (for example, the United States) may also develop thyroid problems since their thyroids have become very good at taking up and using small amounts of iodine. In particular, these patients may develop iodine-induced hyperthyroidism (seeHyperthyroidism brochure).

If it is used to clean your water it will likely become part of that water and you will indeed consume it - it may not be enough to be a danger but I would avoid (and I am one who has already lost there thyroid).

Have seen othesr post obtaining from Ebay and perhaps Amazon.

Don't use the sea salt, it is dirty and contains a lot of moist, which you also pay for.

Use the refined salt from TRS. It are the orange labelled bags and are 110 Bht for 25 kg in Pattaya. I guess same price elsewhere.

Again resin is used in basic water filtration and not confined to dedicated water softeners.

As for sea salt that sold at locations mentioned in my post can be as clean and dry as supermarket sold if you want.

Just to clarify. In my system I have two tanks, 3 x 50 kg filter housings activated carbon, magnesium and resin. Water goes from the borehole to tank 1 and is then pumped through the filter mediums to tank 2 thence pumped by a second on demand pump to outlets.

The resin will remove some iron but it is basically the water softener. I just need the salt to regenerate the resin.

I should have added the Pentair filter units all have manual control valves which incorporate backwash facilities and the resin control includes 5 settings used in backwash and regeneration process. I add this in case anyone wants to set up a similar system.

Really good bit of kit I have two one for pool testing and one for general water just buy the reagents you require no need to have two photometers I am just greedy.
