sleeping pills OTC

Featured Replies

I just got back from Canada where my doctor prescribed Oxazepam for my sleeping problems. They are 30mg and only take 1/2 a pill at night.

Does anyone know if they can be bought otc here at a pharmacy?

Thank you in advance

Oxazepam is not available in Thailand, period. It is also highly addictive. Even half a tablet, if taken nightly, could lead to problems. You would also quickly develop a tolerance i.e. same dose would stop working.

There are other drugs in the dame class (benzos) which are available here, but only on prescription and usually only at a hospital. They are strictly controlled. The one most commonly prescribed for sleep by Thai doctors is midazolam. Like oxazepam, highly addictive. you will find it hard to get prescribed more than a few tablets and it is really, really not a good idea to use this type of drug on a regular basis.

Non-addictive and OTC alternative is atarax and generic equivalents, but that too can develop tolerance and better to use only occasionally.

Doxylamin (Donormyl) works very well for insomnia. I am not sure if it is available in Thailand.
