Has anyone had received and treatments or advice from a Doctor in any of the Khon Kaen hospitals. My Thai wife has been diagnosed with a tumor of the liver from the Bangkok/Pattaya hospital. We have received some advice from the Doctors there but we would like a second opinion from preferably another recommended Doctor.

We live in the North and would prefer and treatments in that area.

Any advice would be well appreciated.

Cheers, Denboy

KKU University Hospital (Srinagarind) is a regional hospital and major teaching hospital and is excellent. That is the only place in KK I would recommend.

As a Thai your wife is eligible for free care. Assuming she does not have Social Security through employment, she would come under the "universal" (AKA "30 baht" or "gold card") system. She has to go first to whatever hospital covers the area where she is listed in a tabian ban. If it is in KK they will refer her on, most likely to KKU.

If this is a malignant tumor -- or an abscess/infection -- you could be looking at some significant costs so I do recommend going this route unless the finding suggested something benign like a hemangioma. If that, probably does not need treatment and might be worth going privately to KKU, they have a private after hours channel that lets you choose doctor and see by appointment, saving a lot of time and waits (though it does need to be booked in advance).
