British teacher to sue Bangkok clinic after lip job goes wrong

she's got no chance of getting anywhere with legal proceedings, stupid women.

Where does it say she's pursuing legal proceedings?

On another webboard she talks strongly about legal action.

As a teacher in Thailand, how is she gonna afford a lawyer?

She's probably a real teacher.

Hope she wins. However gullible she appears, she believed she was getting one product and the scam merchants substituted something cheap , nasty and dangerous. The lack of regulation of these shysters is disturbing. As we know , people die in these shopfront surgeries.

I feel sorry for the girl - but according to the article it seems she has enough funds to correct the mistake, so it may have a sort of happy ending.

There is no way to know how much it will cost to fix it, or even whether it will ever be made right.

This lady made a very poor choice.

She will now have to live with the consequences of her actions.

"Suing" she will discover is not a realistic option in Thailand.

so according to the guys on TV it's the girl who's at fault NOT the company clearly selling something that's not tried and tested and is possibly illegal.

Did she get forced into the clinic?

Did she chose what she wanted and the price that she wanted to pay?

Did she shop around and go for the cheapest option?

Basically in life you get pretty much what you pay for.

She paid a low price for what she wanted and yet she seems to have enough money to be able to sue the clinic.

if she had spent the money going to a good place perhaps she wouldn't be in the position that she is now.

If this was something that had happened to a guy here, people would be queuing up to blame the Thais.

But farang women are fair game round here it seems.

I reckon a guy that ran into a problem regarding his lip injections would get it a lot worse actually :P

She looked fine before the op, what on earth induced her to try cosmetic surgery?

where did you see pictures of her?
Put her name in Google image search. Before & after pics.

When it's too good to be true, it usually is. She is guilty of being absurdly naive.

The clinic was deceitful and caused harm. They should be shut down and heavily fined.

Why so judgement of her? Physical augmentation has become the norm in developed and developing countries. It's the norm in fashion and movies ... you hardly see a movie today where the actors/actresses have their natural teeth etc, etc. This will become pervasive as new technologies become mainstream: nootropics, stem cells, DNA customization etc. the message to young people is that it's more than OK, it's a requirement to keep up.

Plenty of photos of her on her facebook page.

While I agree that the buyer has to beware- many uniformed people will see a Thai clinic which advertises and looks professional as a way to get the face, breast or other surgery done that they believe will make them look better. The real problem is that in Thailand many of these places are using silicone which is a banned and illegal substance that can cause health risks and even death. They need to be exposed and stopped before other gullible people use them. I hope she carries through to the end and forces them out of business. Now this is a situation where the police or other regulatory body should step in and actually force disclosure or close non compliant clinics. Casting aspersions on the young victim shows a complete lack of any compassion.Judge not ye be judged.

Well, according to the Mirror article, she set up a page to raise funds for remedial surgery. Then the clinic gave her a sum of money which will pretty well cover the costs, with the remainder met by press fees - first I knew that the press paid fees to someone whose minor story they had covered. To give her credit, she has advertised on the requisite page that she will be refunding the donations received.

But while a number of TV posters have sympathised with her, criticising those who didn't, let's be frank: while a fee of, say,

₤200 would look reasonable against ₤400, a modicum of thought should have rung alarm bells over a fee of ₤50.

Don't think it has anything to do with gender or blaming the Thai. Male or female, any twit that buys cheap in the cosmetic business needs to think twice (....do think twice)

Has any foreigner ever successfully sued for medical malpractice here and won? I doubt it.

In this case the company who caused the damage have agreed to pay for most of the medical fees required to repair the damage done [press fees paid for the rest} and have withdrawn the advert for the service from their website.

This all happened after she went public with her complaints.
