Sending Laptop to Thailand

Featured Replies

Just checking if any members has recently had a laptop sent by Royal Mail or USPS and did the customs hit you with any duty.

Please note I am not talking about sending by a Courier Service so only interested in registered post with tracking or EMS.

I will fine tune the value and description of the item as per my previous experience with other items i have had sent, but not sure how they react when its a laptop in the package.

What do you mean "fine tune the value and description of the item"

Good luck with that, you're going to need it

Item description would be returned after repair and obviously the value would be adjusted

shipped an an apple macbook pro via priority intl mail usps.arrived korat in about 7 days ,no import duties.

I advise against sending any item that could look interesting for Thai customs to slap VAT or other taxes on.

Your greater difficulty might possible be dealing with battery issues and new, very strict shipping regulations regarding them. Thai Post will now accept nothing outgoing internationally with a L-ion battery...incoming might be the same.

If like me, you rarely actually use the battery, you may consider having them ship the laptop without it.

I can verify that. Recently sent a tablet with a L-ion battery and after 3 months it was declared lost but only to be found shortly after that having never left the airport (in Thailand)
