Alright i'll bite :)

i) Your licence should be supported by an IDP. If you have an accident the lack of IDP could saddle you with everything!.

ii) If the jeep is marked as a hire vehicle they might not let it on the boat. If they do it's possible that someone could submit stills/footage to the owner for financial gain (read your contract!).

iii) Your deposit should ideally be made of hemp or sisal :)

I have had rented Suzuki Caribbean jeeps by boat to mainland, but many local rent-shops don't like their vehicles being taken off the island - that also count for motorbikes - so you need to agree with the owner before. The reason is, that if something happens - some of the small jeeps are fairly used - it's quite difficult for the owner, when off the island. Alternatively rent a car from a major nationwide car-renter, that vehicles you can take all over Thailand and even pick-up at Samui and leave in Bangkok v.v.

The cheap jeeps from the local shops often only has mandatory government insurance, that covers next-to-nothing. Major car-rent-shops provide full insurance, but best to check first. By Law you shall use an International Driver's License (issued in UK and valid for one year), but normally nobody checks before an accident happens; your UK-license may or may not be accepted. If you stay more than 3 month in the Kingdom, you will need a Thai Driver's License. Remember always to have the rent-contract (or a photocopy) on the vehicle.

IDP, international driving permit.

International driving licence is a scam sold on the Internet.

Thanks for correcting my English - stand corrected sad.png - just checked my 10-year old, which in my native Danish language is called "International Drivers License" (kørekort), but the English text below, with very small letters, correctly says "...Permit". thumbsup.gif

You do know that I understand Danish fluent....

Fluently ..... you mean? tongue.png

Just to get back to topic, I would suggest the OP use one of the international car hire companies.... wink.png
