Featured Replies

Hullo,

I'm flying from Bangkok to Loei (Nok Air) in early February and cant find any information on transport options from the airport to downtown.

I there a minivan transfer system or are taxis available?

Information greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Any idea of usual costs to downtown area - Muanmanee Hotel (35 Nokkaew Rd)?

It's about a 5/6 km trip to there I stayed in that hotel last week,it shouldn't be expensive,I would imagine,I've never used metered taxis in Loei as I drive, hazard a guess at 150/200 baht maximum.

Don't be surprised if they don't want to turn the meter on though.

Thanks stoneyboy :-)

Do let us know how much it costs.

The hotel by the way is fantastic for the price,it's a new build and the staff are very friendly and helpful,it's spotlessly clean but difficult to find as its down soi 3 from the main road.

Enjoy.

Thanks again - I'll update this thread with costs etc

The local Issan mafia will always have the non metered guys right at the exit door...you usually will need to walk a bit to find the meter taxis...just look left or right when you pass the touts and you will see the queue.

I arrived on the Nok Air flight from Bangkok yesterday (Feb 6th 2016) and at 10.15 am there were no taxi drivers clamouring for my attention.

The lady in the Information booth was not overly helpful, other than to say that there were taxis outside.

Exiting the airport arrival area, I could see 1 Taxi and a bout 6 Tuk Tuk waiting about 100 meters away, to the right.

A young lady, who arrived on the same flight headed for the only taxi.

I handed one Tuk Tuk driver the hotel address (in Thai) and I could hear them discuss prices ranging from 120 to 150 baht.

An older man then offered to take me the 5 Km ride for 100 baht.

Passing the bus station on the way to the hotel, there were a dozen or more taxis waiting there.

It seems odd that the airport attracts (at least on this one Saturday morning) so few taxis.

Consider this: The Thai people who can afford to get on a plane are the sort of people who have relatives with cars who can take them to and from the airport.

So there is little demand for taxis. I live in Roi-et. Our airport is 23 km out of town. While I have never actually done it, with my white skin, it would probably cost me

B 500 to get a tuk-tuk to or from the airport. That changes the perspective on a B 800 flight to Bangkok, or whatever the current price is.

Going off topic a little - our new Robinson store is located on our ring road, probably 4 to 5 km from the centre of town. There is no songthaew service. I think Robinson is only interested in potential customers who have cars, not in the sort of people who would arrive by songthaew, if there was one.
