Somali plane suicide bomber meant to be on different flight

MOGADISHU: -- A suspected suicide bomber who blew a hole in the fuselage of a Daallo Airlines plane last week, was meant to be on a different flight.

Daallo Airlines Chief Executive Mohammed Ibrahim Yassin said most of the passengers who were on the bombed flight were scheduled to fly with Turkish Airlines, but were flown to Djibouti by one of his planes after the Turkish carrier cancelled its flight.

The bomber was sucked out of the plane through the one-metre wide hole and the pilot forced to make an emergency landing in the Somalian capital Mogadishu.

No group has so far taken responsibility for the attack, but the US suspects the Islamist group al Shabaab which is allied to al Qaeda may have been responsible.

Seems that Turkish Airlines are possibly being rather economical with the truth on the reason for them cancelling the flight.

Maybe the Turks were advised by their 'business partners' over the border who had been contacted by their mates in Somalia?rolleyes.gif

We will never know for sure. But certainly a fortunate coincidence for Turkish Airlines.

It certainly doesn't look like a coincidence. They cancelled because it was "too windy": and had done the same the previous day.

Yes, indeed. This was a comment on the PPRune website:

In fact the Turkish flight in question had been cancelled for two days straight including the day of the incident itself citing "winds out of limits".

The conditions in Mogadishu were standard Mogadishu ...pretty much straight down the track 20kts .. which leads to some questions of course.

Those in the trade are clearly seeing something more than Turkish Airlines are admitting to.
