Escorted all the way back to England by a security guard? Seems a bit much. Surely just putting her on a plane would have been enough.

Anyway, she deserved what she got.

I wonder if she'll be able to get a new passport after she willfully damaged the existing one.

The escort is all part of the NEW tourist service package. Part of the new "We will return you home safely" campaign. Imagine the positive press. Is it a big offence to miss use HM's property or to make a foreign fool of yourself?. Oh dear.

Would be nice to get an explanation as to why an escort was considered necessary for someone with a mutilated passport and, apparently, nothing else.

She was denied entry here but why did Thai authorities not simply put her on a plane and let Britain deal with the criminal offence of deliberately damaging government property ?

The guard was actually supplied by the airline to stop her from wiping her arse on the safety information card while travelling back.

The title of the thread was probably imagined by someone who misunderstood the article

"people were looking at me wondering why a border official is someone sat with me the whole time."

she probably meant that someone sat with her in Suvarnabhumi.

anyway, what an airhead.

Quite simple: The airline is responsible for removing any passenger arriving without the correct documentation, or face stuff fines.

Probably due to previous experience of awkward passengers they felt it a wide precaution to provide an escort, who may have been in the employ of the airline. Obviously the airline is out of pocket for the cost of the seats but it's small fry compared to the fines they could receive.

It's all there in the IATA manual if you want to check.

Many UK backpackers go to Australia on working holiday visas (good for 1 year) and then overstay.

They get deported.

Many UK backpackers go to Australia on working holiday visas (good for 1 year), have a great time, leave and go to NZ or Indonesia, get a tourist visa and head back to Australia. They take up where they left off, only this time they are not permitted to work. They work.

They get deported.

In both cases, they receive a ban of a number of years from returning to Australia and often a big deported stamp in the passport.

Her application form for a replacement should be a good read, listed in the Fiction category perhaps.

Was she really escorted all the way back ? Good that the security guard had a passport and it was handy but wouldn't he / she need a visa which would take time ?

Escorted onto a plane bound for Britain sounds more like it.

If the security guard stayed " Air-side " then technically he would not need a visa because he would not be entering the UK Maybe he stayed on the plane and returned to Thailand

If you read the full story http://www.itv.com/news/2016-02-10/woman-refused-entry-to-thailand-after-ripping-pages-from-passport-to-use-as-loo-roll-when-drunk/

Final quote "I felt like I was a criminal - people were looking at me wondering why a border official is someone sat with me the whole time. I don't know what a criminal looks like but I'm not one."

'Definitely not good times for showing up at an immigration authority anywhere - other than some places in Syria maybe - with missing passport pages. I'm a little skeptical of the toilet paper story. 'Wonder if she'd really been wandering around with the missing pages for 5 years.

I don't know what to say ............ blink.png

I do! Those brittish girls drink too much! They have a serious alcohol problem and that causes them to get into trouble whereever they go.

And of course, girls from other countries never ever drink too much, do drugs, go to the wild parties here, or misbehave in anyway.

In fact you no doubt think all the people from your country so perfect - why did you leave?

My homecountry has more wild parties then the UK, they all come over for a partyweekend. And our girls don't drink that much and have better manners.

Just look at Geordie shore and do i have to say more?

Yeah, sure impeccable sweet virgins your lot. All come over and never touch the booze, dope, and indulge in boys or whatever turns them on. Real little ladies.

Dream on.

Strangely enough loads of Aussie backpackers turn up at Heathrow intending to do just the same. They don't get by immigration usually as they're to dense to have thought up a plausible answer as to how they intend to support themselves during their stay when they are not permitted to work.

The grass is always greener.

Another example of the type of Brit we now have flooding into Thailand. A quadruple increase in the price of air fares is the only way to stop this.

Yeah along with all those quality Aussie bikers, French crooks, German pervs, American gangsters, African drug pushers,Chinese pissers and shiters anywhere and thieving Russians, and on and on.

Criminals, sex tourists, young people out for a wild time, all head for places where they feel they're expectations will be met. And the dross is ready to come from all countries

I have been refused entry to a Southeast Asian country (not Thailand).

I was held in small room with friendly police officers who smoked constantly and chatted but mostly left me to just sit there and read a book.

When I was escorted to the plane, which was the next flight on the carrier I had booked the return portion of my ticket. I had arrived at 11 am and the return flight was 5:45 pm, so it was a long wait. They made no attempt to be quiet about it. One fully suited on the left and right, although they did not hand cuff me or hold my arms. It caught a lot of attention. We were on the walk when they realized the flight was delayed 15 minutes. So we stopped in the Members Lounge of the Airline smile.png I ate a bit of the food and had a coffee. They were with me the whole time. I stopped at the mens room to comb my hair and primp a bit. People were taking pictures ! Thought I might see some business acquaintances in the biz lounge, but not so lucky.

They walked me through all security - no waiting!

Waited with me at the boarding gate for the 5 minutes and then watched me walk down the ramp.

Why?

Because my passport had added pages and they determined my passport "had been altered" and this was an offense. It had been altered by my Embassy.

And who paid for all the damage done to you if the passport was totally legal?

Yeah right. Do you think a country would say "oh sorry, we should've realized your country allows additional pages to be added to their passports by their Embassy. Very sorry, let us reimburse you".

They make a decision and you live with the consequences. That's how it is. I doubt his own country would be particularly interested other than putting a note on their website to warn other travelers.

Well i would claim it at my travelinsurance and let them sue the embassy. After all it's not his fault.

Decent countries know how to make good passports, also i never heard of add extra pages officially...guess my country doesn't do that, they sell you a new passport with extra pages.

Quite a few countries allow you, the USA for one I believe, to add pages at an Embassy, for a fee of course. I think some European countries do to.

But then again, your country has the bestest passports, the bestest Embassies and the bestest look after it's citizens, who always behave impeccably anyway, services in the whole world. Probably only charge you a small passport fee as their incredibly wealthy too.

A travel insurance company paying out on a claim like this, and then suing the embassy clap2.gifcheesy.gif

Not quite right....... You can only enter the UK without a passport if you are an illegal immigrant they then pay you to stay there. Of course work is optional as the government pays all your bills.

Not right either. Illegal immigrants and asylum seekers are different things. Illegal immigrants can't work legally. Asylum seekers generally cannot work but do get financial help but it is less than social security benefits.

I would expect she can get another passport as it would be considered damaged. Might be a bit embarrassing though.

Naahh... She was not that drunk, or else she would have used those pound notes instead...

Pound notes??? I assume you're not a Brit. If you are you've been away a long time haven't you.

No problem he could use the ten bob notes instead unless he is homosexual then he can use the nine bob notes.
