We are living here (from Australia - both Aussie citizens), depending on how the tax situation and the high Baht we are likely to move to another nearby country (Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, even Cambodia or Laos) and spend less than 180 days - and/or just move back to Australia. Given there are about 150-250K retired/married Expats in Thailand, I find it truly astounding that they have not taken the decision to 'exempt' older retired/married Expats from income taxes, unless it is earned from working or investing in Thailand. Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia have all excluded retired Expats from being taxed on their money brought into the country from overseas. They all figure that it is better for the country - after all why do they bring in their money if not to spend it in their country - and it is not like they get any free Government (or Private) services like the local Citizens and Residents. -

Extension longer than visa validity.
The validity of a visa is different from the period of stay. The validity of a visa is the period you can use it to enter Thailand. The period of stay is granted by an Immigration officer on arrival, subject to the type of visa. You could therefore have arrived on 14th October (visa is still valid) and been granted a stay of 90 days on entry. You can also apply for a 60 day extension to each 90 day entry. Possible to stay for almost 17 months with 3 border runs and 3 x 60 day extensions. -

Harris is normal compare to him but I don't care for her as a politician as I don't care for many Rep or Demo who are just as normal. You are so deeply belief you can be reasoned with the reason I stated nothing good comes from discussing politics especially when view and opinions are different. I'm not going back and forth with you in spite of your opinion what I will say is Good luck to your candidate whoever wins I'm going to respect the vote and support that the winner if it is Harris I'm not going to focus on her personal short comings but focus what she is going to do the ISSUE! This is what I will also do with Trump as I have done since he won in 2016 although I voted for Clinton. ISSUE'S I don't need to just focus on Trump himself! I can live with either winner I need not nor have the time to whine about nothing! Good luck to your candidate! -

I always start my 6 moths stay in Thailand in November and leave in April. Rainy season ended November and it is getting very hot in April. An easy choice. -

From what I have seen here on Samui, Thais drive quite fast through floodwater creating large bow waves that cause issues for the bike riders. The force of that water is quite strong. There is usually a collation of plates after flooding and we don't have the volume of traffic that Phuket does. -

Still sitting on quite a bit of cash (not US Dollars) that should have been transferred to Thailand weeks ago. For the moment just keeping a low profile and save money until the Baht weakens at least 10 percent.- 1
