Uncontested Divorce documents, procedures and timescale

Hi folks

Been reading up on uncontested divorce procedures and seem to be getting some conflicting advice.

Simple questions really for anybody in the know:

1) If both parties are in agreement for signing for an uncontested divorce and we use the ORIGINAL district office upon where the marriage was originally registered do I still require to get my passport certified at my embassy in Bangkok ? A side issue being that I have now been issued with an updated passport as the previous one had expired.

2) If certification IS required and translation of the certificate into Thai needs doing does this process need doing BEFORE our visit to the Amphur OR is it after the signing of the divorce papers that the certificate is required so that it is then sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for legalization?

3) How long should I allocate for the entire process for an uncontested divorce to be concluded ?

Tried to keep it nice and clear. Hope someone can clarify the process for me and timescales involved.

Cheers guys!!!!

Question number one.

Firstly you can do it at any district office, it does not have to be the same as before.

And some district offices will accept a simple translation of your passport without it being stamped by the MFA. So if one doesn't accept it simply try another office.

It won't make a difference if it is a different passport, they are only concerned with what you give them on the day.

Question two.

It. Will need doing before your visit.

Question three.

All should be done in a day.

Hope this helps. My wife is a court interpreter and translator and deals with this sort of thing all the time so I think the info should be good.

Good luck.

After certification of my passport at my Embassy (this takes 45 minutes) what timescales are involved in getting it translated into Thai and then it being brought to the MFA for legalization?? I note that you say some district offices accept it without their stamp but as my timescales involved are short I'd much prefer to avoid the hassle of going from one district office to another....especially with the woman I'm trying to get rid of !!!! I need everything sorted before we "get in line" at the office!!!

On a side issue, as you're wife is a court interpreter any recommendations of a district office that are farang friendly for a divorce??

Cheers

If you changed passports since marriage may need to get it certified at your embassy. If you go to the same amphur this may not be required. After some discussion we were able to convince officer not to require it. No mention of MFA legalization. This was 4 years ago at same amphur we got married at.
