Top speed allowed on motorway been reduced to 90 KPH

Featured Replies

Mrs N210MP has just informed me that the new speed limit on the motorway is down to 90 kph Thats just about 60 MPH in my estimate

I wonder if the recent tragedy of the mercedes driving into the car of the two University students has had anything to do with this?

On the other hand she is always telling me to slow down so maybe its another Thai scam? giggle.gif

55.92 mph

which i can do on my pedal bike

For the driving ability of most on these roads,m56 miles an hour is about 50 too quick.

I doubt that the killing event was on a motorway (will have to check).

Maybe just a separated highway.

Higher speed than 90 km/h is allowed by dedicated signs only.

Motorways (tollroad sections) 7 and 9 are two of the examples where you see 120 km/h signs.

Highway 2 (Mitraphap): 90 is the general limit (like all separated highways).

Higher speeds allowed on some sections by dedicated signs.

Highway 12: never seen a higher limit than 90.

And what does a young psycho hiso with an AMG CLS 63 Merc care about speed limits?

56 mph actually. And frigging slow!

What does that has to do with anything? If he can afford it so be it.

Mental illness and being in traffic on a bicycle or in a Lamborghini doesn't mix either way. Should have a driver instead.

Used to drive highway 7 from bangkok to pattaya twice a month and it was usually the lower end cars that swerved in and out of traffic and no one cared about any speed limit..

Plenty more idiots in Toyota's, Honda's and so on, on the road.

That's going to upset all the hiso's in their escorted minivan convoys.

Might as well make it 0 as it makes no difference if it is not policed.

But from now on I'll be sure to adjust my speed when approaching any (known) speed camera's.

Cameras on the toll booths already - would be easy to time distance toll-to-toll and auto ticket the speedsters...

I very much doubt the speedlimit has changed.

Hi so's and other convoys of influential people don't give a hoot for speed limits in Thailand's culture of impunity. They do what they want with no repercussions.

They installed less than a week ago a large sign along the new highway in Pattaya that says the maximum speed on highways is 120 km/h, though there are signs in place on that same highway that restrict the speed to 90 km/h.

Dirty licence plate here is all you need to avoid speed camera fines. The police aren't going to pull you for a muddy plate, well maybe in a clean Merc they might :)

Today i saw an escorte of 30 ducati motobikes driving inbetween the cars-lanes, police ,sirenes and alarmlights they had it all.

Anybody can rent an escort from the police and than there are no trafficrules at all..Even doubledeckers can drive 130 with a policecar infront and behind them.

Went to BKK on Friday via Bang Na. Did 9 kms in an hour and a quarter on Suk! 55.92 mph sounds like luxury to me.

Cleaned up version:

Doesn't really work when there is a rest area in between on Motorway 7

I'll go out on a limb here but if you get snapped by one camera and then 10 minutes later snapped at the other there is a high chance you did not stop at the rest area and also were not obeying the speed limit.

Not really following what you are trying to say. If the only timed check points are at the two toll booths on motorway 7, I can just speed all I want and then stop for a break at the service center to lower my average speed.

Yep. clearly you are not following what Nuum and I saying.

Reducing speed is a good idea, reduced speed = equals better safety and no one can argue that's not a good thing.

Changing the numbers on the sign does absolutely nothing.

They can't even link the database from the different offices of the land transport department, but they can install and link intelligent cameras who can distinguish between each car they detect at different locations.

I'm sure you also think Santa Claus is real.

The tech is readily available.... Saying that they would fork it up just doing the install !!..

I do love the camera's on the 7, Seeing myself up on the big screen is awesome... reminds me I need to go out and nudge the speed limiter as I pass one and wave.

I wonder if they can supply a Hi-Res image ?

What?

Already explained above. Can just speed and then stop at the rest area and have something to eat, relax. So the average speed will be below he speed limit.

Isn't the idea of speeding to get there sooner?

I'm fat enough already, I don't need to stop and eat during a two hour drive.
