CHONBURI:-- A daring armed robber held up two men delivering cash to an ATM in downtown Chonburi Su day morning making off with more than 10 million baht, reports Thaivisa News.

The slick and well executed robbery took place outside the Nong Khang Khok branch of Lotus Express at an SCB teller machine. It emerged that this was the second time in two years that armed robbers had hit the area.

Police discovered that as two staff of the Samco company were delivering the money a robber on a motorcycle parked, walked up to the staff and ordered them to lie down while brandishing a gun. Terrified they handed over five cash bags containing 1000 and 500 baht notes.

The robber then calmly returned to his bike and put the cash in a pannier and drove off in the direction of Bang Saen. It was all over in seconds.

Witnesses even remarked to investigating officers that the robber spoke quietly and they thought it was all a training exercise.

Police said that the two guards, both in their 20s from Yasothorn were continuing to help police with their inquiries. Officers said that there was an armed robbery at the same spot in July 2014 when four robbers had stolen nearly seven million baht.

Some gang members were arrested but the ringleader, a 48 year old man called Charoen Thepwong remained at large.

It has always amazed me that not more money transports are raided here.

Just the other day I saw them filling up the ATM's outside the Kasikorn office at Big C extra.

A single guy with a large bag full of money and 1 female Kasikorn employee sitting outside the ATM's, with the load doors open, slowly counting bank notes and filling up the ATM.

Where I come from it would be an armed transport of at least 3 with some police escort with bullet proof vests scanning the area before the bank runner left is vehicle, otherwise he would not make it any further than the ground floor of the mall.

And no, I didn't grow up in the wild west.

Smart water...and or dye . Make the notes useless and unspendable. Do not have a fixed schedule for reloading machines and yes, armed security backup .

My goodness rocket science it is not.

Lone robber walked away with over 4 million baht stolen from a money truck

CHONBURI: -- A lone gunman robbed a money truck of over four million baht in cash in front of a department store in Chon Buri’s Muang district on Sunday morning. The robbery took place at about 10.30 am in front of Tesco Lotus Express in Tambon Nong Khang Khok, Muang district of Chon Buri.

Police who were rushed to the scene of the robbery found a money truck of Siam Administrative Management Company (SAMCO) parked in front of the store and company employees, Mr Wutthichai Prakobsook and Mr Banharn Thiangtham.

The two men told the police that they stopped the money truck in front of the store in order to put cash into an ATM of the Siam Commercial Bank. But after they offloaded two money boxes from the truck on the floor in front of the ATM, a man approached them from behind, carrying a pistol, and ordered them to lie face down.

The robbers then took away the two money boxes and put them into a basket on his motorbike and sped away.

Police later took video footages from CCTV at and around the store to find out who the robber was and where he was heading after the heist.

The delivery system is so wrong on so many levels one dose not know where to begin, it's like almost

inviting robbery to take place seeing how easy it was to relieve them of the cash,

either it was an inside job or the people who's in charge on delivering the cash are incompetent and

clueless in their job...

not that the robber will much time to enjoy the money before he will be apprehended after blowing cash

all over the place and bragging about it, here is a big clue to the cops, go look for him at his parents place,

they always go there and hide the loot in the rice field.....

They will have to post armed guards there in the future when they are filing the ATM's.

Seems almost a no-brainer...I live in a small town, and there is an armed guard always present when refilling the ATMs...

I thought the ATM machines only hold 4 cassettes of a million baht each? 10 million?

First time I hear of an ATM-refill where there is no guard standing with his back to the ATM having his hand on a shooter.

Life goes on :coffee1.gif

I would not think that tease guys would be caring 10 million baht (200,000 pounds).. Sounds like a scam between some bank employee and the delivery men . collecting the insurance might be tough on this one.

I might have a go at this.apparently they just hand over all they've got and have forty winks until the bib turn up.imagine if this was the uk,the banks would go under in a week.

Just remember. You can rob from the poor to give to the rich. It's legal.

Just saying......,

I'm surprised this hasn't been going on so much more. I've seen plenty of ATM's topped-up and no armed guards in sight.

........4 million.......10 million........???

...better start asking some serious questions here......

....and all too easy......

Wouldnt happen like this in the UK. As you know they have armed guards with them when money is delivered to the bank and the couriers do not leave the vehicle until the armed escort tell them to

First it said 10 million baht .... then it's says 4 million ....... what's it going to be ??????

I read that and immediately thought inside job. He would not need to speak loudly if they knew what was happening and he would not want to make a big scene by shouting which is what I think most robbers would do to frighten the 2 guards and get immediate compliance.

But who knows. Assuming the bike was not traceable and assuming of course he was wearing a helmet and kept it on it will be very difficult to catch him now, especially here in Thailand where so many people live under the radar.

Dont try that shit in the Philippines, you need a few well armed robbers as they have big squads all armed autos and shotguns.

Soooooooooooo......why didn't he take the truck and do a quick transfer??

My guess is he is a very happy person right up to the time they arrest that person.

That kind of money will buy lots of love!!

Nice to read that in all of your home countrys armed guards are needed. Even police controle and checks before delivering.

But it sound that in your country it is a dangerous job to refill ATM's. As many of you write down and whitnessed refilling here.

so you all agree Thailand is a much safer country than yours.

If the baddie was wearing a helmet that would stick out like a sore thumb.

Surely the best way to fill the ATM would be to turn up with required number cassettes of cash, open machine remove old cassettes, replace with full ones and take old ones to check in secure facility. Reduces risk and time ATM is open.

Perhaps you could identify him and direct the police to his parents address?

Gandalf . . .

mate . . .

what is it about you always saying "wouldn't happen in the UK!!?"

You said that about that pub shooting in North Pattaya?

I don't know if you are secretly working for the government (tourism dept) but you seriously need to open your eyes pal. Crimes like this happen all the time.

Did you not see the old boys who got caught robbing Hatton Gardens last Easter?

Seriously, wake up. Im from the UK as I have previously mentioned and you try and portray as some kind of amazing Utopia!!

By the way, how much do you charge for rose tinted glasses?

Sounds like an inside job to me , we had a similar case in my country where the security that carried the cash pretending they were robbed.
