For a long time Apple users have sat back and watched Windows under constant attack by the hackers. It appears that a new threat to Mac users has emerged through iCloud’s Find My Mac feature, in the form of ransomware (KeRanger).

The article author, Thomas Reed reckons that this is a very serious threat ironically made possible by a security feature. Worth reading for all you ipad users.

Yeah ok somehow (they don't specify how) they are getting the iCloud password. Everyone should turn on 2-factor iCloud password access and it should mitigate this. Also..... Of course..... Never never never give out your iCloud password, or type it in from a link via email.

This is useful but simply means that the person doing the scam hacked into the iCloud account of the victim, which means he got their password somehow, and the person had not set up the two-step SMS access to their account which is available at Apple.

It is not an OS weakness but a personal security weakness.
