my benny rai Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 After your 1 year license expires, you can go and get a 5 year license at the head office, a short walk from the Chatuchak BTS or Underground stop. 5 baht for the actual license 50 baht for service fee 500 baht for five year extension 555 baht total for friendly, efficient service on the second floor of building 4 (counter 14 I believe that is clearly labeled "foreigner") And 10 baht to laminate your new license! If you do not have a work permit, you must get a letter of residency from your embassy. They are no longer accepting a letter from immigration.

Are you certain that is all that is required?
my benny rai Posted November 1, 2006 Author Posted November 1, 2006 Check out the thread pinned above for more updated info. As far as I know at this point you need four things to RENEW your license at Building 4 in the Chatuchak Office: 1. Passport and copy of your face page and visa page. YOU MUST HAVE A VALID NON IMMIGRANT VISA or they will not grant you a new license. 2. TWO 1" photos taken in the last 6 months 3. Your old license to give them OR, after you show your old license, a copy of your old license that you sign. They will punch your old license for you to invalidate it if you wish to keep it. Just ask them nicely! 4. Your work permit OR your letter of residency from your embassy that must not be very old--I don't know the cut off date. AGAIN, THEY WILL ONLY ACCEPT A LETTER FROM YOUR EMBASSY, NOT IMMIGRATION. If you have a work permit that has your present, proper address on it, use that. Don't waste money at your embassy.
MrSnrang Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 HOLY SHIT! That's a whole pack of cigarettes!

Strap Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 Strange ..I paid 105 BAHT for my 5 year license in Chonburi. Lost the original a month ago so had to get a new one..again 105 Baht. Looks like you've been had! I doubt you got a five year license, its a 100 baht a year fee . Thais and non-Thais do pay the same fee. I dont think all the thais and westerners in BKK have been had . But hey maybee chonburi is 'Cheaper" than the rest of Thailand The info from my benny rai is correct 5 baht for the actual license 50 baht for service fee 500 baht for five year extension 10 baht for laminating and photos cost me 20 baht. Strap
jingjingna Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 Well, I just double checked my license, valid until 2554..it's now 2549 according to the Thai calender. So, it would appear then that Chonburi is cheaper!
croftrobin Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 Wow an extra 10 baht a year!!! As many of you may have noticed, more and more of Thai government agencies are now connected to their central office/database via the internet, thus saving time & money for eveyone. The implementation of this has cost a lot of money. So simply prices rise, to pay fot it. This centralisation does have significant cost benefits - not only for the government but also everyone else. YOU NO LONGER HAVE TO TRAVEL BACK TO THE PROVINCE OF ISSUE TO RENEW YOUR LICENCE -- as was the case @ 2-3 years ago for all licence holdrers, be you Thai or Foreign. The majority of Taxi drivers come from other provinces and they used to have to go back to their respective province every 1 or 5 years to renew the license.
jingjingna Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 Sorry, but what has this got to do with the actual 'cost' of a five year license? "Off Topic"
uwe_rayong Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 Hi, I picked up my new 5 year license last wednsday in Pattaya. Paid 505 Baht and they accepted the letter of residency from immigration without any questions. Been there around 15:00 and took me 5 minutes. cheers Uwe
