exterior paint

Featured Replies

we are going to have the house painted, its been up 7yrs.now and its looking a little faded.

we dont want toa,so we have been looking at jotun who got some nice colours.

BUT finding ready mixed paint seems to be difficult.we had a problem with home pro not cleaning the machine and telling us toa had changed the codes.[f.liars]

can anyone recommend a ready mix or have we got to get base +.

what worries me is its a big house so having to go back and fo for a base mix, dont want a variation in the colours.

Seems to me most all the major (better) paint brands sell just the base paint. 15 years ago we painted with Captain......the exterior paint easily lasted 10 years. Then we used a premium grade of TOA.....5 years+ ago and the exterior still looks wonderful.

If you're not doing the painting yourself.....be aware......most Thai painters will try to cut the paint with water......much much more than recommended. It's easier to apply that way. The finished product will look okay.....for a year or two or three. But it'll likely chalk up or fade much quicker than if it wasn't cut.

thanks for your reply,we do intend to have a team of painters, they done a good job near us for a well to do person,we watched them put down sheets for any drips, and they had more than 1brush.the house was built 2007 and toa was used by the builders on a mooban.i have seen them mix water with the paint without any sort of measure. most recommend say 10% so guessing i would think they used double that,as it has faded badly on one side.we did have the roof extended over the drive which i painted and that looks pretty good.but my days up a ladder are over.

Do they remove the old paint and rub down the surface here, or do they just paint over the top of the old paint?

Irrespective of what certain Thai painters may do,If they were re painting my exterior walls I would expect them to be swept down, any flaking paint scrapped off and if it was required a sealer need to be applied before or after painting to maintain the finish and avoid damp etc.

^That's exactly what I'd expect, I was just curious what actually thai contractors do here though from people's experience.

A Sky Blue and white colour scheme looks amazing in this tropical sunlight blink.png

Beger was my choice from Watsadu,2 top coats over one base sealer, great coverage thumbsup.gif

Can it be beneficial to apply a sealer coat on top of the 2nd coat of paint? And would you post a pic of that sky blue and white color scheme?

Meatboy....have a look at NIPPON Paint....use their undercoat first, and put both straight on from the tin it comes in....The better one i have found.

Also...If you can, waterblast everything before you start....

one of tv.members kamalabob2 mentioned nippon on another thread last week.we will have to find a supplier in korat.

we have a presure gun so its do what we want and not what they want.a touch of frank sinatra our way.

wife spoke to a forman on a building site yesterday and he warned about using base paints as the machunes are rarely cleaned.
