I wouldn't bother........ buy an auto. Its major work. As well as the g/box the pedal box will need to be changed. The hole in the floor where the gearlever is, is often a different shape for an auto selector. Wiring will need to be added/changed to accommodate kick down sensor, selector illumination, etc.

Thailand connection?

After reading a very interesting blog on this forum by philipm about tuning 2.5 to well over 200bhp I thought I'd join and ask for advice on coverting to an auto.

It seemed like an informative site

If you follow philipm's advice 200bhp should be well achievable

I was hoping pm mite read this and have some good advise

Please don't forget the fancy lights underneath and bicycle rims for a higher speed. Full Open Throttle...facepalm.gif

Totally pointless additions unless you also go for the genuine fluffy dice hanging from the mirror plus a bit of tinting on the front the windscreen that gives the names of you and your loved one....for example

' Dwain .... TingTong '

And real imported fluffy dice don't come cheap.

You should ask phillipm about the autobox, he is the one building and tuning them he will know what the OE box will hold and what mods needs to be done if any.

I did this year's ago on an old mid sized sedan lucky there were other variations of this car in auto that allowed me to scrounge parts. It was a lot of work, custom cross support needed to be made, tailshaft was different, differential was changed as the manual used a lower ratio diff. Drove for a while without the reverse interlock and kick down switch. As noted there may be coms (electronics) from the transmission to the main ecu or there may not, being a Toyota it will probably complain but keep going anyway. Find someone who has done one of these cross overs before, most likely they won't be from Thailand!

Swapping a 12 year old pickup from manual to auto is not exactly rocket science even moreso given the sheer volumes these old Toyota's have sold at. Go to any wrecker yard and you will walk out with every needed for mere chump change.

I doubt that seriously.

The price of good parts would be more than the value the truck.

And to find a mechanic to do it for you would be even more difficult.

what about buying a toyota 2jz engine and automatic gearbox complete?

That would give you 200 bhp and is a common swap for a Hilux as well as most other older RWD cars and pickups in thailand.
