An uncertain future for thousands of migrants on Greece’s Lesbos island

606x341_328953.jpg

LESBOS: -- Migrants on the Greek island of Lesbos a few hours before many were due to be returned to Turkey. But they’re not sure what the future holds because nobody is giving them any information.

Over the last month, journalists have been prevented from entering the Moria detention camp.

Now, even filming outside is forbidden.

“Turkey is dangerous for us,” said one young man. “We don’t want to go back. We want to stay in Europe, we don’t want to go back. That’s it.”

“I can not go to Turkey, I can not go,” Fatima al-Hariri told euronews. She and her three children travelled from the Syrian city of Daraa.

“It’s very difficult in Turkey,” she added. “There is no help. Nothing. Turkey takes money from Europe, from some countries, but gives nothing to Syrians. No help.”

Reporters on Lesbos say they’ve seen little evidence of preparation work on the ground.

A spokesman for the UN refugee agency spoke to euronews.

“We need to see safeguards in place to make sure that these people have a credible assessment of their protection need, before any of these returns takes place,” UNHCR spokesman Boris Chershikov told euronews. “We are very concerned and we urgently appeal to Greece and Turkey to put in place these safeguards, as we see deficiencies and gaps still in both countries.”

Euronews reporter Apostolos Staikos is on Lesbos.

“For tens of thousands of refugees and migrants, Lesbos was seen as the ‘island of hope’ — their first step into a new life in Europe. But now many of them are set to return to Turkey, a country where they don’t want to live,” said Stakios.

Indeed. In fact, ignoring mainstream media and PC propagandists, the vast vast majority of the migrants are like that. Young military age males only. Ransacking shops, burning cars, interviews with them clearly show their hatred and contempt for non muslims. Openly bragging they gang up, chase and beat German kids they encounter on the streets, bragging the locals are "terrified" of us. I saw one interview recently with a muslim in Germany and this girl said if all proper Germans disappeared she wouldn't even notice. This I liked alot, she wouldn't notice until the welfare check didn't come.

I think the Greeks will quickly find out that it is not funny anymore - I mean it was funny for them when the migrants were passing through on the way to the land of milk and honey. Not laughing now I'll bet.

IT is time Europe stops being so damn soft and refuse them entry and ship them back. Muslims turned their own countries into shit holes and now want to do the same to Europe, well actually "are doing the same to Europe".

Oh do I hate those politicians fulfilling their own agenda and continue letting them in. Europe hardly has enough cash to look after their own yet want to distribute it to those who bomb us.

Send them back no matter how, let them walk back as far as Im concerned.

Ship the males 12-60 years old back to Syria or wherever they came from!

NO! (that's a big no)

Not to Syria, let's not rock the boat here. It's not part of that deal, and it's uncalled for. We all want this to work out as nicely as possible, which is not expecting much really, given how totally (insert numerous expletives as needed here) the whole deal already is.

OK? Sit down, have a scone.

Did any one see Hardtalk with the Afghan President? He demanded their return, I didn't realise they were been held hostage. Perhaps he can lay on flights.

Notice all the people in the photo are young men who should be home fighting for their country instead of running like scared rabbits. There have been a lot of arguments put forward that Europe can use skills they possess well what are those skills and why does it take a war for them to want to live in another country? If they had skills that the EU wanted then let them apply through the normal channels.

They are in Greece demanding they be let into Europe. Imagine if you for any (strange) reason wanted to go to their country? Would they allow it? Not a chance in hell would they. They are Muslims, not that I have anything against them being Muslims I dont, but why are countries like Saudi and Gulf states not taking in their " brothers and sisters"? They know there are a lot of fundamentalists in these groups and they dont want them.

Send them home no excuses

Care to post a link? As far as I was aware they don't take back involuntarily repatriated citizens, like any other rogue state.

Who is the nutter who started giving credibility to this illegal mass movement of people by calling them 'migrants'??

They are not migrants. They are people looking for a better life arriving illegally in other countries, and expecting the red carpet treatment, to be welcomed and have money thrown at them.

I note that some are returning to their own countries because European countries are 'not giving us enough money'!!

Bloody parasites!!

Australia is blessed not having land borders, but more importantly, a strong conservative government with good policies on these people.

Differing opinions by Afghan representatives, but covered in the article below. What is rarely reported, if ever, is the make up of Afghan refugees by ethnicity. e.g. Non Pashtun such as Hazara and Tajik are still targeted for ethic cleansing (killing) by the Taliban and now by Daesh, plus discriminated against by Afghan government forces - why would an ethnic minority discriminated against by their own government forces wish to fight for them?

At the moment the Greeks are completely under resourced to implement the EU - Turkey agreement, right now the process is a fiasco. Only Syrians are able to claim asylum seeker status in Turkey. Turkey will have to negotiate government to government agreements to return non Syrians to their home countries.

For anyone who is sick to death of the fluffy pink photo's that are normally used by the media to tug at the heart strings.

There is a gallery of not so ping fluffy photo's here:

http://www.express.co.uk/news/politics/658502/Record-illegal-migrants-entered-EU-ONE-year-Brexit

Your link originates from the Express, a well known Islamophobic online media outlet from the UK.

Owner Richard Desmond who also owns the Daily Express, and its role in whipping up anti-Muslim prejudice in the UK served to remind me that some biased lobbies are trying in vain to influence the media in Europe.

Desmond also owns a porn emporium, so he knows how to entertain the masses, but let's keep the facts and in this case the sources 'straight'...

Nice try...

Let me see.

Lets attack the source and ignore the content. Where have I seen that before ?

The Express may be a red top rag, but one thing it is not is Islamophobic. If it was it would have been shut down by the UK authorities. I am also pretty certain that his porn emporium is all legal and above board or that would have been shut down also.

This was certainly one of the better attempts at obfuscation, denial and deflection, I will give you that.
