The following is not neccesarily Thai related, however as a repository for Visa information in general, this is as good as I can find

I hope that there are Visa experts out there who understand the situation I am in, and/or other posters who are/have been in a similar position with Thai GFs

I am a UK national from Birth currently in the UK, I met my girlfriend in February who is from Namibia whilst she was in UK on a 2 year Working Holiday Visa, her working Holiday has just run out. Whilst here she got a very good course at college in I.T., at the time she was under the impression that she could change from her working Holiday Visa to a student Visa, however she was informed by the immigration Directorate in September that she would have to go back to Namibia to apply and there should not have be a problem with her application for a student Visa

She went back to Namibia about 1 month ago to apply, however the Authorities in Namibia

decided that she could not quality, although I dont understand why they choose to deny her thats the situation

The question now is she wants to return as a Visitor for up to 6 months. She does not need to apply for visitor Visa, As I understand I can support her and show evidence, however we dont know if the fact that being turned down for a student Visa and having just returned from a Working holiday Visa will count against her, and as she has no job in Namibia having been in UK for the last 2 years we dont know what to do to show proof of her intent to return to namibia at the end of 6 months

She is not in a position to discuss this with the British commision in Namibia as the British High commision in Namibia do not process Visa applications or answer questions, they send them to Pretoria in South Africa to process (her going to Pretoria is not an option)

Could anyone give any advice, Apologies if I have not explained this well but its 10 past one in the morning in the UK, now if it was 10 past in the morning and I was sitting in the Tiger complex on the Bangra Road, i'm sure i would be a bit more lively

thanks for your time

There are some situations in which your girlfriend could have made an application to the Home Office to switch status to student, but it's pointless discussing that now, as she is back in Namibia.

You're correct that there is nothing stopping her just getting on an aeroplane and coming to the UK as a visitor. However, she will be seen by an immigration officer on arrival and will have to satisfy him/her of her intentions. Given the circumstances you have outlined here, it is feasible that the IO would not necessarily be so satisfied and, I believe, there's a good chance she would be refused entry. Should this occur, the worst that would happen is that she'd be immediately turned round and sent back to Namibia. Should there not be an immediate flight, the IO could give her temporary admission, directing your girlfriend to report back for the next available flight. She could be detained, but as a female, this is unlikely, although is not unknown.

Scouse.
