How does anyone that can't pay for a ticket home afford to get an extension? Overstaying only lasts till one has to show a passport.

What makes you think they have an extension? I'd wager that the number of overstayers is way underestimated.

Save up some money(a million baht should do), then try again.  We have many expats who are earning good incomes from the beach in Thailand.  They only go home when they feel like it, not because they've run out of cash.

How does one earn enough money on the beach to provide for himself in his old age? A million baht will certainly not do it unless you have a short life.

A million baht in the bank and some earnings locally would last a lot of years if you don't act like a two week millionaire in the meantime.

I am guessing he means digital nomads living in beach resorts.

That thinking fails to take into consideration that they too will eventually get old. Thailand is a great place to retire as long as you have money. You're right that it doesn't take a lot but it has to be enough to last for as long as you live.

All a digital nomad need is a steady income from the internet business, It's enough with 30k baht to pay your bills and live a good cheap life.

You are right, the older one gets the more expensive the medical bills start to get too.
