EU and Iran 'turn a new page' in diplomatic relations

BRUSSELS: -- EU representative Federica Mogherini held several meetings in Iran to reopen economic relations between Europe and Tehran.

The president of Iran’s central bank said the country has not benefited economically from a nuclear deal struck last year between Tehran and world powers.

He said that European banks are concerned about breaking US regulations and receiving huge fines.

He also pointed out that Iran needs to access the US dollar for foreign payments.

“We have told the US and will also put pressure and the EU will do the same too,” said Iran’s Foreign Minister Javad Zarif. “The US should also make it possible for non-American banks to work with Iran.”

“We are doing all we can to reassure our financial and banking system on the fact that all the information on the new situation is provided,” said Federica Mogherini. “And obviously we are in a situation in Europe where we cannot, for sure, force anyone to do anything.”

Mogherini said that Europe was determined to retake its position as Iran’s main trading partner.

Euronews correspondent Javad Montazeri is in Tehran.

“Iran and Europe are about to start a new chapter of economic relations after the nuclear deal, however, sanctions initiated by the US government on Iranian banks, prohibiting the use of dollar in international trades is a common concern for Iran and Europe’s commercial and economic development,” reported Montazeri.

Trading with Europe, what does that mean? Trading with Brussels or with each individual country in Europe?

Away with the EU. They will not dictate what each individual country wants to do.

Stop the dirty game playing of the EU and vote for Brexit. The rest will follow.

The Germans will sell their BMW and VW, the Dutch will sell their Shipping knowledge, the Danish will sell their windmiils, the Swedish will sell there Volvos,

the Belgians will sell their french fries, the French will sell their wines, the Spanish will sell their music, the English will sell their soccer,

the Italians will sell their pizzas and the Creek will sell their islands. We don't need you EU, we can do without you.

And why does this woman wear a scarf?

Forget sorry, it is Italian style politically correct.

Wished good old George C. would still be alive and call his BS on that.

Apparently the outcome was that from now on all western women have to wear headscarves.

This meeting took place in Iran. That's the way it works there. If she was in Saudi Arabia, she'd be wearing a Burka. But, of course, Saudi Arabia would never hold a meeting with a woman inside the country.

It's about time the EU stand on its own feet and take a position on the relations it wants to have with Iran going forward. The Americans are still ticked off because of the hostage crisis, well let them continue if they think that living in the past is in their best interest. Iran is too big to ignore and the West can't continue to be held hostage to Saudi and the Gulf mischief makers any longer.

It's a one way street with Dhimmification, which is why nude marble statues were covered up when the Mullahs visited Rome.

While I wasn't around then, I understand from people who were that life in Iran pre '53 was pretty liberal, that is before the US and UK decided that they didn't like other countries to have democracy.

Please Europe stand on your feet again... on anything please!, Your begging is getting old and its time for America to balance its budgets. Europe stop being a wimp, on that I have to agree with chilli.

Americans are ticked off because of the continued development of long range missiles (those banned by UN sanction) that could carry nukes, with the wording of death to Israel written on them. While calling for the destruction of America. The world got screwed on the Iranian deal, that terrorist country will continue to attempt to build them and will continue their proxy terrorism across the middle east.

Of course the Euros, particularly the French and Germans will have ayatollah spunk all over their lips in order to cut a profitable deal.
