PHETCHABURI:-- Police have made a quick arrest in the gruesome murder of a 29 year old Ratchaburi woman found tied up and beaten to death by the steps on Khao Wang in Phetchaburi.

Thamonporn Hormhuan was found with her skull battered in by a rock near the stairs beside Wat Pranorn on Tuesday. Her hands and feet were tied and she was naked from the waist down, reports Thairath.

Police acting on a warrant for murder issued yesterday arrested Adirek Srisanya, 39, of Kanchanaburi. He was apprehended at Nong Khai railway station around 5pm by local police. He was attempting to cross over to Laos.

But it emerged that Adirek was already wanted for rape in a separate incident in Kanchanaburi and had spent many years in jail for other offences before being let out.

Adirek had been identified from CCTV footage taken at Phetchaburi train station on Sunday evening just after 9pm when he and the victim got off the Bangkok-Yala express together. After initially saying they wanted to go to a hotel on a motorcycle taxi, Adirek told the driver to take them to the temple area. Thamonporn's body was found Tuesday and Adjrek had disappeared.

Superintendent Panupong Sorajit of Phetchaburi police said that Adirek had spent many years in jail for theft, assault and gun crime committed in Kanchanaburi. He was released and later an arrest warrant had been issued in the eastern province on a charge of rape.

He was transported back to Phetchaburi after his arrest in the north east.

Good an arrest has been made but it would be nice for the three police officers to have properly secured their prisoner before two felt obliged to use their phones.

For one that's all he appears interested in.
