Hi guys,

I am finding it very difficult to get a headset/microphone with single connector for my laptop.

Suggestions please on what/where (preferably purchasing online) for a quality item. Would anyone recommend a blue tooth device?

It is for regular use on Skype. Many thanks in advance for any suggestions. wai.gif

I recommend the Logitech H800, but I couldn't find it on the Thailand Lazada website. It has a 2.4Ghz wireless dongle and Bluetooth.

Here it is on Amazon.

If Amazon or Ebay are no good for you, I recommend the model down, the Logitech H600, but it only uses a 2.4Ghz dongle and doesn't have Bluetooth.

Here it is on Lazada.

I own both models. The H800 I leave at home and the cheaper H600 I travel with.

You can use both models whilst still charging from a USB port and when they are charged you can walk around the room and still talk on Skype or listen to music. You get about 5 hours battery time on full charge.

If you are saying that your laptop has the one "socket" for both speech and audio, well you can buy a small 2 to 1 adaptor which will accommodate a headphone/mike set without reverting to Bluetooth (unless you want to that is).

It's wireless but not Bluetooth. I'm very happy with my Rapoo headset+mic, a use it really a lot over Skype. Good sound quality, excellent battery life, and cheap (for licensing reasons I suppose regular wireless devices are much cheaper than Bluetooth devices)

Drawback: it will tie an USB port on your computer for the tiny USB receiver.

This Rapoo headset is very easily found in IT shops, i've seen it sold numerous times at JIB, BananaIT etc. for 1000B or so.

It looks like this (except that my receiver is smaller)

I don't think so .. I have a 13" MacBook Pro and a few years ago they changed to this one port that you select the purpose in system prefs.

The port can be switched to either but not both, I doubt a splitter would be of any use.

Not that I can verify this but

Sorry, can't be done. The port can be used for in or out, but not both at once - there's no splitter that can accomplish that (it would need to be a switch, not a splitter, but even that's not feasible because the in/out is a setting in software).

The OP doesnt specify that he is using a macbook, but the solution for a wired system on a macbook with a single audio port would be to rig the audio to the speakers and a USB mic or use a BT headset.

. You can specify audio analog line in functionality, to support line-level microphones and audio equipment, by selecting Audio In in the Sound pane of System Preferences." It clearly states that it supports line level microphones. But any way if it is NOT a Mac then I will probably work fine.
