I am just after a bit of advice. I am an Australian who lives in Bangkok and I plan to take my girlfriend of about 12 months to Australia for a holiday for my mothers 60 birthday and for a holiday at the start of February 2007. When would be an appropriate time to apply for a holiday visa fr my partner?

A tourist visa takes only a few days to process.

If your g/f has a regular occupation, she may need to apply to her employer for leave. Her employer may also provide you with a letter addressed to the Oz Embassy, stating that her job will be kept open until her return following the completion of her visa.

Such letter will assist to show a valid reason for her to return to Thailand.

Just some info, if you are not from an ETA eligible country (countries that are allowed to apply online for a tourist visa) it can take some time for tourist visa approval so make sure to look on the aussie government immigration site for your country and requirements.

My south african friend had to apply direct to the embassy which also required bank letters, accommodation proof, employer letters etc.

You can take it as gospel that it takes only 5-6 working days for a tourist visa to Oz to be granted...

My Filipino boyfriend and I put in his tourist visa application last week and we were told to call again in 9 business days.
