For LifanX200, papa finally got the second set or rims,

mounted with trials tires / 2 rim-rocks each,

yesterday and took her

to KMK to ride some of the easier trails.

Using 12-PSI now but will try 7-PSI next time.

Running ~6-PSI the Aprilia Climber now.

Bought 2 pair of rim clamps for than and will

drill and mount afore too long, Buddha willing.

Big news:

Jan 22 scheduled for another Endoro race,

22km for the big boys.

Also hab 10K loop

that papa might train for.

have been riding @ Khai Mai Kaew Reserve most days this week.

...calling it 'riding 'my cow '...

Planning on entering the 10K event Jan.22, so need to train.

The weather has been a bit cooler of late

which is mo bedda for sure.

Have avoided any injurious crash so for,

thank Buddha.

My boots and other protect gear are getting beat up.

The Climber is running fine except The right front fork is leaking.

Has USD forks.

From what papa can ascertain from an old-trials-bike-guru in States,

'91 Climber: the right fork takes 5W oil and the left takes 20W.

265mm each.

Right has spring; left has dampening mechanism.

Hopefully my mechanics can handle this and that

the extra seals that came with the bike purchase are ok.

Hope to bring her into town next week for a good cleaning.

Also hope to drill the rims and to install rim-locks.

Ordered a pair of rubber gaitors for the front.

Those from the LifanX200 look as tho they might work.

papa gotta go ride my cow now.

Posted

Got new rubber fitted to the Lifan, this time new stock, asked for 2 bar (30psi) and thought no more of it, then went to Tesco on the now dried out 2km off-road course.

Rode the whole way standing up and even out of the seat thought my joints would come loose and teeth fall out on the hard corrugations. Got back and found almost 60psi.......you can trust anyone these days, foolish for me for trusting.

Time for a massage..........

Yesterday ended a month-long hiatus from riding the triails at Khao Mai Kaeo.

Because papa crashed the Lifan riding home then.

Went down on pavement after botched e-stop.

Armour saved me from sever harm,

but left-wrist and right-ankle were sprained.

Finally had enough strength to ride again yest,

and did a nice 14km single-track loop ride.

Didn't fall once.

Climber is running fine again,

[as it was cutting-out when hot]

after replacing the HT coil.

[B220 part; B180 labor].

Peace.

Rode my cow to day;

attended the Enduro Rally at KMK with 200+ other riders.

Mostly Thai but met 2 Belgins, a Sweed, & a Brazilian guy.

Everyone was super friendly.

papa the oldest.

Thought the ride would be 25Km but turnout to be 43Km.

Kicked papa’s ass big time.

About 1/3of the tracks were new to me.

Very hot.

Fell thrice and had to stop a few times to rest.

Expect [more] soreness 2mor.

Massage sounding good.

Been riding my cow every other day or so.

Good fun.

Yesterday Yamaha engine was running a little flat,

so figured to take to nearby shop to check spark & clean carb.

Took it over this morning.

Bikes started 1st kick so figured sparker okay.

Carb is difficult to reach so mechanic had to remove exhaust to access it.

Also changed mushroom air filter.

Bike running tops again.

Very lucky to have this shop nearby.

Very experienced, keeps good parts inventory, and really inexpensive,

Where papa keeps bike had a young dog (bitch actually)

 that papa had befriended.

Owner told me that she was dead.

Seems like he was telling me that she liked to kill chickens, so....

Could not believe it!

My small town locally has a bunch of motorbike shops. I'm not talkin' brand name new dealers selling the usual boring same old same old small stuff, but, interesting shops. Old 2 strokes, Honda SL125's etc etc.

One of which likes to buy and sell off road stuff. Usually tatty and old. Example - recently saw a 250 Suzuki Djebel in there for 40k for chrissakes, ya know big headlamp, virtually identical to an early Yam TTR250.

Anyhow, driving past there yesterday, getting MIL's monthly diabetic meds, i spy a weird looking motorcycle out of the corner of my eye. Stop.

 A f#*king Beta Techno 250, mid 90's.

Very tatty, but good rims, tyres (!!) and front forks. Wrong calipers front and rear, lots of bodges, inc a rear mudguard probably made out of an old dustbin and painted orange. That gorgeous alloy frame that acts as a petrol tank. If only the Japanese learned to weld like that! Lovely bike, but a money pit waiting to happen. 40k, quickly dropped to 35k, bought it in BKK (obviously for a lot less).

Could not believe it!

Great riding @ my cow.

Occasional rains lately have kept the dust down

and consolidated the sand a bit.

Went out this PM.

Met a trio of Thai riders at the entry.

All were on Kawasaki KLX150s that they rode up from Rayong.

One worked at Kawa factory there.

But two of their bikes were imported from Indonesia, so…?

They wanted me to be leader.

One guy 40-years-old had only had his dirt bike two weeks,

but was former BMX.

Some trails are blocked by falls, so I took them on the 14 km. loop.

Left foot peg slammed a snag at one point and papa went flying.

Resilient old fart tho.

Nice day and riding was ++.

They liked the secret creek crossing.

Thailand is riding paradise.

Good mechanically?

Ask to test ride it.

& photo would be swell.!!

Dunno, but the thing looked like it had had a hard life. Rims and fork tubes looked the best things on it. Tyres had not seen a lot of use. A '95 Techno was on B&S a coupla months ago, later RWU forks fitted, 20161209_100434.thumb.jpg.20a5e531db6a9408d99633a6dbf091e6.jpgCM area owned by a Brit, had over 20k invested in new mechanicals, and the guy would accept 40k. Seemed a far better bet.

Photo is the CM bike. Still got it's rear mudguard...

Well we are past Songkran now.

It has been one year since papa acquired the

Aprilia Climber [Yamaha RXZ] trials bike.

Really happy to discover the stand-up riding style.

papa started training at the garbage strewn empty lots, behind condo,

and now riding regularly at KhaoMaiKaeo Reserve,

a most excellent trail riding area.

Carried on last summer in Colorado after acquiring an

YT350 there ,, as chronicled above.

Have dented-up and broken hardware but

never hurt the software past minor scrapes.

[+Buddha]

Have benefitted bigly from the exercise.

Guessing have taken a trials bike riding aboot 150 X this past year.

It has been very fun.

You should try it.

Rode my cow Sunday, pretty fun.

Got the Climber to the entry area aboot 11

and saw a BKK group of 7 Thai guys and a gal

readying their enduro bikes for a ride.

They said sure, come along papa,

doing a 5 K loop to start.

Last time pap rode this trail found

blockage by fallen trees

and the detour pretty tricky.

This was going to be interesting.

First 1/2 went smooth then one man’s bike,

a KTM, wouldn’t restart,

So he & another bailed to walk the bike 1km back to

be picked up by pick-up.

So to speak.

Turns out the snags had been cleared,

& straightforward ride back in.

Joined group for big Thai lunch @ local restaurant.

2 of the guys had uni-ed in USA, so good English.

After lunch plan was for one group to try

the full 43 km Monkey Mountain route

but papa was to the wimp group doing a shorter loop.

We took off, but papa, last, lost track of everyone.

Ended up doing my 14 km splash-and-dash [anti-clockwise].

0ut in the north 40, met the advanced group ripping the other way, .

When back at start, found wimp group lounging in the shade.

Then the local manager of the trail, and his 6 y/o son,

Gun, show up on their bikes.

I jumped on the Climber and began chasing Gun

[on his 125] around the area

trying to smash into him

but he was too quick.

Rode my cow 14 k loop anticlockwise today.

Trails are opened but the jungle is encroaching.

Nearly yanked off by a vine round the neck,

luckily it was smallish and broke.

Took the Climber over to the local mechanic for some service.

Sometimes the kickstart wouldn't engage.

A 2" diameter gear inside the case was missing its retainer and

moving out of position.

My guy fixed it but it took a while

as he had to fabricate the retainer out of a flat washer.

He had the RXZ135  right case gasket.

There was considerable metal particles visible in the oil,

so good to catch that.

Also the silencer bracket broke

[~plumbers strap]

but my guy had a bracket in stock too!

He adjusted my chain.

Oil, gasket, bracket; maybe 2 hrs labor

B940.

Not bad.

He's like the main/only shop In KMK

and has lots of parts in stock for the older small bikes.

Have machine shop and do a lot of moto engine rebuilds.

papa would be screwed without this shop.

# Surprised a shop like that did'nt measure the shaft and just nip down to the nearest auto parts shop and buy a std metric external circlip.

# I seem to remember having the same problem on that motor, why i took the R/H cover off. K/start ratchet gear wobbling about like good'un, shagged bush, made a new one and fitted another circlip, the old circlip lying in the bottom of the case. Worth keeping an eye out on that, it may be a recurring problem. I'm not sure, can't remember but, maybe that gear, once disengaged from starting, revolves all the time once the gears are engaged and the motor is running? Which would be a strange design...

The gear behind the clutch innit.

# don't think KMK has auto parts shop.

# yes the gear hiding at 10 o'clock.

The standard clip had been ground to dust.

We'll see how home-made fares.

The little beastie is running good.

Good-bye my cow. See you next year.

papa is calling it a season for riding @ KMK.

Rains have allowed the foliage to encroach

upon the trails and

caused several tree-falls blocking trails.

Many thanks to the local riders who maintain the tracks

 with chain-saw and machete’.

Had the Climber trucked back to the condo yesterday.

Will be √-ing out Colorado mountains for a few months.

The cool air will be great change.

Very itching for firing-up the TY350 iron,

& the KLR650 too.

;-)
