Suthiphol Thaweechaiyakan selected as new secretary-general of EC

Mr. Suthiphol Thaweechaiyakan (สุทธิพล ทวีชัยการ), deputy secretary of the Supreme Court, has been selected as the new secretary-general of the Election Commission.

Election Commission chairman Aphichart Sukhakkhanon (อภิชาติ สุขัคคานนท์) revealed that all 5 Election Commissioners elected Mr. Suthiphol as the new secretary general of the EC, from the 6 finalists that were selected from 53 nominees. He said the 5 commissioners have never discussed among themselves who to choose.

Mr. Sumet Uppanisakorn (สุเมธ อุปนิสากร) and Mr. Praphan Naikowit (ประพันธ์ นัยโกวิท) said Mr. Suthiphol's vision was clear and he was not only prepared with domestic work but also has readied himself for the international level.

Asked about his motive to resign from the judiciary and enter work at the EC with only a five-year term, Mr. Suthichai said he wanted to benefit the country and he saw that the post of EC secretary-general posed a challenge.
