There have been shocking scenes at the end of a demonstration in Bolivia as disabled people clashed with riot police.

Tear gas was let off as the protesters, some on crutches or in wheelchairs, advanced down the street in the city of La Paz.

Some protesters were knocked to the ground.

“Some of the disabled people have been injured during the protest,” said one protester. “We have been gassed repeatedly. This time it is really bad, I have been sprayed in the face,” one protester told reporters.

A face-off in the street

The protesters tried to stand their ground as the police advanced down the street.

Campaigners are demanding better state benefits and equal rights for people with disabilities.

How can this be? Ten years ago, Evo Morales promised a socialist utopia, with equality for everyone.

Some one has to eventually pay for the socialist hand outs .Those getting the hand outs will not go to work again and those working not on the government will tire of supporting the rest. After socialism comes anarchy then dictatorship then revolution ETC,

Governments dont build police armies for the citizens benefit,

but the government and police are paid by the citizens. Something must be wrong, (synic).

Demonstrations and riots are going to escalate in the years to come...no country will be totally exempt...people are fed up with ineffective leadership and squandering of resources...

The elite barricade themselves in fortresses while employing private armies to keep the peasants away from their stolen wealth...

Historically, the only hand-outs in Bolivia, like in most of South America, were given to the oil companies and other multi-national extractors of natural resources, leaving the indigenous people to live in poverty. And then while living in poverty later governments sold off, privatized in the Regan-Thatcher vernacular, the public sector and those living in poverty watched utility bills skyrocket. Morales simply attempted to balance out the past and is actually more a Democratic Socialist but is of course branded by the corporate controlled press in the west as some sort of evil third world "socialist", the same epithet slung at Obama and Sanders. I don't follow events in Bolivia that closely so can't say what this protest was about or how it was handled, but I would be wary of any news item coming out of Bolivia just as I am wary of any news item coming out of Thailand. The spin is always on.

Socialism, after acting through all of the parts of a whole and fracturing them, necessarily debase the the new whole created from the broken parts. All the celebrants and militants in socialism are invariably among its first refuse, excluding those that percolated to the top in its savagery.

Socialism is nihilism couched as a champion. It's no more then tyranny by pretense. Always emotion. Always violent. Always employing stalking horses- children, disabled, black, women, the dead-reparations, muslims, lgbt, poor, middle class, neighborhoods, schools, ad nuaseum. Invariably all the celebrated parts become a new amalgam of suffering and despair.

The problem is that we humans are a greedy lot, and the laissez-faire approach to capitalism that the western industrial barrons have forced our governments to allow has generated such obscene levels of inequality and unfairness that the extreme reactions of the downtrodden are only to be expected.

The right wing nuts on TV never miss an opportunity to rail against socialism, but they never seem to want to address the capitalist systems that allow rampant theft and corruption from the many.
