Windows 10 Outlook 16 and ISP

Featured Replies

Dear Forum,

I have just bought a new computer and they have installed windows 10. I have put on outlook 16 and cannot get it to work.

I have webspace and domain name (zandtao), and am trying to setup outlook for @zandtao.com.

I have another computer using windows 8, and have used the same settings on windows 10 and it does not work. I have used webmail on windows 10 so the settings for the ISP are fine.

But I cannot get outlook to work.

I think there is something new about the settings on windows 10 that affects communication between windows 10 and the ISP. Normally my Thai ISP are quite helpful, but they are telling me to contact Microsoft. They have no other windows 10 users I have just discovered.

I feel the problem concerns encryption between windows 10 and the ISP.

On my outlook account (File ->account settings-> change-> more settings -> advanced

it says:-

Use the following type of encrypted connection ........... NONE

the ISP have accepted this, and it works on windows 8.

On windows 10 when I setup the account with mail from the start screen it has this box

5075abd211a1ae3fe6fa14554988957ec5ae8dfd

I have unticked the ssl boxes.

No outlook.

Any suggestions?

Hope you are keeping well,

All the Best,

BillZ

My webspace provider advises me to downgrade to windows 7/8!!!

My webspace provider advises me to downgrade to windows 7/8!!!

This kind of ignorant advise annoys me. Win10, in terms of the core OS design, is not a great leap from 7 or 8 (yes Win8 was a horrible derail with the UI). Sorry I can't give you specific help with your issue but it going to be something simple. Have you googled for this issue?

Dear Aussie 69,

Thanks for the comment.

It is very frustrating to get that kind of comment from people you are paying to provide a service, to be fair to her/him there had been a series of posts - I had thought the problem was a computer communication problem and s/he was having none of it. We were both polite and annoyed.

It turns out I was the problem. I store all my passwords in a software program, and I cut and paste the password into the Outlook accounts form. You cannot see the password but it is sensible to assume it was pasted correctly ..... it wasn't. As a final attempt I copied the password into word and then typed it into the form. IT worked!!!

So it wasn't activation issues nor encryption nor anything to do with the webhost or windows 10 - just damn computers.

Lucky I found it I was about to knock windows 10 on the head!

Hope you are keeping well,All the Best,BillZ

Great stuff, something, I wasn't looking at but...hey...you will windows 10 now.

Problem solved thanks for the interest

If you post the solution, perhaps it would help someone else who may have a problem.

For myself, Outlook 2016 has worked ok with Windows 10.
