Driver License and Passport mismatch

Featured Replies

I've renewed my passport so the pp number on my 5 yr license is incorrect. I'd like to correct that but I wonder how large a can of worms I would be opening. New cert of residence, etc?

Anyone have experience with this? The answer may be buried somewhere in the pinned topic but that is a huge thread to peruse.

Thanks.

My DL was issued in 1969 and nobody has ever questioned passport number - photo does get a few laughs. rolleyes.gif

I had a 2 year DL with a passport from country A when I used to come in on stamps. I went for my 5 year and used a passport from country B because that passport had my visa in it.

The lady corrected the numbers on the license to a different passport from a different country without batting an eyelid.

Dante99: Golly, why didn't I think of that?

Studmeyer: thanks but this is about updating an existing d/l.

It could come in handy in some cases e.g. making plane reservations then using the d/l for ID at the airport, etc.

Any experience or knowledge about updating a d/l is welcome.

Otherwise, never mind. Have a nice day.

If you fly international you need a passport - period. The number on your D/L is moot because no one would ever accept it, or ask for it. If you fly local in Thailand, you can use your Thai D/L and the numbers don't matter, your passport never comes into the equation.

But if you really want to know, why not make a trip to the DMV and ask the girl at the welcome desk?

Good Luck!

Yes you can update your DL with your new PP number. Just go to the Land Transport office with both documents and 3,500 Baht for the fee. I did mine in Mae Tang last month, fun, the officers were laughing their butts off.

There is no fee to modify/correct your diver's license.

Thank you, Dave2. Just what I needed! And since there is no hurry, I won't pay the 500 baht extortion for the cert of res.

And thanks Studmeyer for telling me I need a passport for international travel. Who knew?

Dave2, your work here is done. I think we can close this now.

Just wait until renewal time.

I did just that !

But, if you want to check, your old passport number and date of issue should be in your new passport where there is a stamp when immigration transfer the extension information from the old to the new passport. Your previous passport number is written over there if someone want to compare it to the one in the DL.

Renewal time is in four years. I like to use it INSTEAD of the passport which stays in a safe.

Anyway, sorted.
