True ADSL to True Cable, no more torrent??

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I recently got an offer from True to switch my True Hi-Speed internet (ADSL) to cable. Although the speedtest look good, anything else is weird:

- web-pages take forever to stop loading (the page is full, but the icon in the browser still spins)

- no torrent is working anymore. Tried to download torrent from Ubuntu (I need the ubuntu iso) and it shows "ubuntu.com: Error: The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request".

Is it some sort of you-know-who internet spy/block? Is there anything I should do? Go back to ADSL?

Maybe they  "double NATed" you....  I read on here that you can phone them and ask to be put back onto a "normal"

IP address.

Could  be something messed up with your cable modem..if you have your login details  try factory reset the modem

then re enter the login details.

3rd option call them  and get them to send the "engineer" to fix it.

@CharlieH - Sorry, I will remember (I'm not posting much :S )

@johng - Thanks, I called and I got to multiple persons from level 1 support to engineer. Didn't get what I wanted, but in the meantime I checked the router settings and the main issue was that I had set the firewall settings to "High" which blocks everything. I changed to "Low" and now I can access fine.

I'm trying to get my port forwarding working for my CCTV but this is where it's hard to talk to the right person. Not a big deal, for this I can use a VPN.

I am getting the same thing, up to a few days ago l could download from torrent/eu then was unable to but even before that was getting bitlord error after error when like  trying downloading MotoGP.

Hola has become useless too for watching BBC iplayer they divert you to a vpn company to pay monthly so bollo to them.

l wonder how before they block popcorn & filmon.

I will get on to True tomorrow they set me up.

True have been trying to get me to change from adsl to cable for months. I always refuse saying cable is too much trouble. They grin and say nothing.

My true cable is excellent, I've never experienced the issues described.

Sorry, I know my comment doesn't help you much though, just wanted to share that it's not always a problem

+1

I have True Online DOCSIS (cable) 30/3 internet plan in Hua Hin and (using VPN via SIN) get 20+Mbps speed tests (testmy.net) to/from the USA.  With multi-threaded downloads like torrents, I get 30+Mbps downloads from overseas.  For B899/month it includes the basic cable TV channels and a mobile phone SIM with 1GB data.

My belief is that all the internet providers have good areas and bad areas.

3bb works very good for me in Isaan. Have the 50/10 and it's fast, even against Scandinavia.

Check out my Ookla Speedtest result. What's your speed? http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/a/2119760410

Gone because the businesses who own the content being torrented aren't happy with it being given away for free. Not surprisingly they go after torrent sites making money from all the advertising a busy torrent site can attract.

As for True, no problem with torrents after upgrading from ADSL to fiber. Just much faster.

True cable internet is pretty shoddy - we changed from adso and get random some sites cey slow loading or need to repeatedly request/reload to get any response... this site is one of the 'bad' ones. Another friend also on tre cable als has same issues.

I have had  vpn service for a while, so can routinely show this cures any problem whether on a laptop or ipad etc etc - ie turn on the vpn and page loads ok.

it's worth noting the True cable modem, Texhnicolor, is absolutely the cheapest, sh@tiiest item - google technicolor 7200 for views on it from around the world... and true gimp it even further with what i suspect is some seriously awful dns service.

AIS cable gets better customer reviews...

but you,'ll want a proper good wireless router anyway - so get an Asus, as almost all Asus can run as VPN CLIENT ( note you want vn client, not just vpn server). Google Asus rt-ac88u as this is a particularly good router... set it up to run as vpn client through your vpn provider and your True cable service will be as it should be...

The wi-fi cable router True installed for us was an ZTE F668. Looks a better model than the one you were given.

then keep that package as long as you can and don't succomb to the luring sirens of higher speeds for less money with the new packages. it's all hogwash.

Consensus on another thread - see manarak's post above - is that the new 50/10 VDSL plan has a lower international speed than the old 9 mbps ADSL plan (now upped to about 20/2 mbps).

Scuse me  :D  but true told me l have fiber optic cable is that what you mean. ?

International torrents downloading just now with True 30/3 fiber, no special tweaks or VPN.

Speed will always be influenced by the popularity of the file i.e. how many seeds and peers.

Can be higher/lower but I've never felt True are throttling torrents.

Used it for a couple of months, had random complete interruptions in all traffic, horrible speeds (except on speedtest.net of course), and overall just pain... Moved to 3BB fiber after that, big improvement... Then to AIS fiber, even better :)

I have been using 3BB 50/10 fttx and it was working fine, although the speeds were slow when accessing foreign websites.

Now I am on True 30/10 full fibre into the house and the foreign websites are MUCH faster than the 3BB fttx.

But my problem with True is that I am so far unable to access my security cameras on the internet.  It was very easy to set up with 3BB.

For some reason, it seems to be impossible with True. I have the ZTE F668 modem.

Kheops, have you had any luck viewing your CCTV system on the internet using True?

I would love to know what you finally had to do in order to get it working.
