I went to the local police station in Melbourne to get some documents certified and a stat dec signed for our up coming Spouse Visa application

and was informed that the Victorian police cannot sign any documents that would be used outside the state of Victoria I would have to go to the Magistrates court or a higher court for certification of the docs

I already had most of my papers witnessed in the same station before July 1 so i dont want to have to go and do them all over again

The act was changed on 1 July 2006 I was told

I called Department of Immigration and was told by the person there that the local police can witness documents needed for Visa purposes

Does anyone have any first hand knowledge on this can or cannot issue

just go to a proper post office (not an agency) and they usually have someone who can sign, failing that, ring the JP's association and find one close to you.
