Wifi Repeater for AIS router?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I need a proper wifi repeater for my condo. I am using AIS Fibre and the Apple Time Capsule, but the signal just doesn't reach my bedroom or the other side of the condo.

Anyone has any recommendation? I would prefer 2 or 3 small repeaters that I can just plug into the wall's power outlet so I can cover my whole condo.

It's only 200 sqm to cover but the standard AIS router or Apple Time Capsule won't do the job.

AIS does give the Edimax BR-6208AC unit free of charge on new fiber installs. At least they did for two installs we did this week.

It seems like a nice unit so far, dual-band, blasting through three floors (total: 450 m2). One down-side, only 10/100 ethernet (uplink, and 4 ports).

My two story concrete home is larger than you condo and the AIS Fibre Hauwei provided router covers the whole house.  I have the router upstairs but I will admit downstairs the signal strength is lower downstairs (fights to get through concrete floors & walls) and significantly reduces the bandwidth/speed...up to half.  However signal coverage is over the entire house just at a lower connection speed.

However, I have an Asus router/access point downstairs also which is connected to the AIS Fibre router via ethernet.   I use the Hauwei router for signal connections upstairs and the Asus for signal connections downstairs....that way I get full signal strength and no speed reduction.

I expect the OP may be getting a lot of interfering Wifi signals from other condos which can have a major impact on Wifi bandwidth/speed.  Just trying another router with 2.4/5Ghz bands may not help a whole lot.   He may need to go the powerline networking adapters route.

Thanks for the replies. The problem is not that the signal isn't reaching the entire condo, the signal is just too weak to watch IPTV or something like that.

I will check pantip tomorrow for a decent repeater. Was expecting a lot more from the Apple time capsule.

Yes, do try to figure out what's going on first.

Use a WiFi analyzer on your phone to get a feel for adjacent APs., then change your Huawei 8245h, or Apple device, to a 'freeer' fixed channel.

I've never used the powerline adapters, we ran/fished CAT6 from the Huawei to the Edimax front to back, ~ 30 m. This gives ethernet right at the TV's/Android boxes in other rooms.
