To my knowledge no. only need invoice which must state engine number and VAT paid.

for imported engine would also need paperwork to show import taxes and duties have been paid.

Thanks, I'll pass it on and pay for the beers.

psst... shhh... please don't tell anybody that after 2½ years i detected by chance the location of the battery

On the latest Holden Commodore pickup, the battery is underneath the passenger's seat.

Up against the cab rear wall.

There is no secret, we called 3 insurance company and they said no problem.

I also been told in the past when I started to look for a "classic car" that it is impossible but was told by previous owner of my car that he had 1st class insurance. So therefore we called 3 companies for quotes and they said no problem.

Maybe the secret is to check with more than one source.

Also could be depending on how your car is registered. If it is a "grey import" with changed VIN then I could guess it could be hard.

Since when do grey imports have the VIN changed?

there are 25 year old Beemer wrecks and 25 year old Beemers in top condition. some of these Beemers have toy engines under the hood, veeery few others have a BMW 12-cylinder twin turbo with 585HP under the hood. the latter sold for 3.2m :)

sometimes i miss this car :(

Did you modify the 850 yourself or did you buy it twin turboed?  To get a 290hp increase in power over the standard 295hp is pretty good just by t/charging.

modification was done by a highly specialised company in Munich, Germany but not on my order. but that company modified in 1996 my Callaway Vette to 713HP (measured on the rear axle @ ambient temp +9ºC). a miraculous engineering achievement 20 years ago! but the bread-and-butter horse power of today's Callaway Z06.

Some do.

Grey import is a BIG grey area were the cars come here in many ways. Many 100% legal and many not so legal.

Here's the Thai supplied VIN plate for a early 70's Corvette I looked at.

Original Chevrolet VIN would start with 1Z 1=Chevrolet Z=Corvette

So what you're saying is that legally imported grey market cars do not have the VINs changed because there would never be any reason to do that but others, presumably stolen ones, do.

I don't know why they change VIN. Could be perfectly legal. Who knows, this is Thailand. I do know of cars that had the VIN changed.

What I'm trying to say is that grey area imports are a mess. The law haven't been black and white. Just read the news about the ongoing cases.
