also is it ok to just replace a compressor..hearing mixed reports about that.

All the big supermarkets sell aircon units for about 17,000 baht upwards.

There is no need to spend 'one million baht'.

I don't know, what exactly you mean when you mentioned the compressor only, do you already have a broken aircon system?
