webfact Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 'We'll be back,' Siam Square sidewalk sellers swear By Sasiwan Mokkhasen, Staff Reporter - A sign seeking the attention of a specific city official is temporarily set up Wednesday where vendors usually sell goods in front of Siam Square in Bangkok. BANGKOK — Sidewalk vendors outside Siam Square protested briefly Wednesday on the second night they were blocked by municipal officers and officials from setting up their stalls. After partially setting up their stalls and hanging signs in protest, the group of vendors left after being told that district officials would sit down with them Thursday morning. licka Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 What gives people the right to block the foot paths in this country and set up a business Others have to pay rent to sell food and other assorted items Why not these vendors Do they believe they are special
TEFLKrabi Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 I hope they can come back. As much as they can be a pain, these street vendors add spice to Bangkok. Do we really want to look like Singapore?

Do we really want to look like Singapore? You mean clean, easy to move around, air-conditioned food courts, little to no traffic jams, no motorcycles or potholes on the sidewalks, drivers that obey traffic rules like stopping at red lights and pedestrian crossings.... Nah, don't want any of that.

Do we really want to look like Singapore? Surely you mean that the illegal street vendors add sh ite, not spice, to Bangkok? They do nothing but mess the place up and act as if they own the pavements while selling their tat at massively inflated prices. Anything that they sell can be bought cheaper almost anywhere else. But AFAIK nobody is forced to buy anything from these stalls.

Let's not sanitize BKK too much. Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect
mcfish Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 They had a good run and now it's time to accept that's illegal. God I love this military regime, makeing difficult decisions and enforcing them Sent from my SC-01D using Tapatalk

If they didn't pay rent, nobody would referee and there would be blood in the streets when they fight over the choice spots every night.

Bantex Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 It wouldn't be so bad if they stuck to one side of the sidewalk instead of creating a narrow passageway with stalls on either side, if someone stops to browse they block the entire area. It's a nightmare for the elderly or anyone with kids to get anywhere.
