Warning for Android Users: Android has NO ENCRYPTION for data a rest on phone.

Featured Replies

Android believes that a lost device does not need to be protected. There is no encryption for data on Android phones at rest. No encryption means no protection. Basically anyone that can download a forensics tool can extract all your data easily from a lost or stolen phone. Technical details and proof: https://android-review.googlesource.com/#/c/291781/

Perhaps you don't think you keep anything sensitive on your phone. However consider:

1) Do you get emails from your bank with your name? Are the emails saved on your phone? Now they know who you bank with and what name you use. Also possibly your account number. Identity theft....

2) Do you keep passwords in a text file on your phone? You're hosed.

3) Do you message/correspond with family members? Family members can now be spoofed/phished to reveal more info about you. Identity theft....

4) Credit card info on phones? Pictures of credit slips for expenses? Emails or bills from CC company?

5) What other info is left behind and stored in the background by your apps... Android leaves it all vulnerable.

Google needs to be pressured to fix this flaw ASAP and provide some protection like iOS does.

I'd be interested in that forensic tool as I have an old Note 2 with a broken screen and lot of stuff on that I tried to download...but cannot access it as I cannot unlock it with the broken screen.
