CHIANG MAI:-- Tourists thronged to Doi Inthanon on Friday morning as the joint lowest temperature of the year was recorded on the peak in Chiang Mai province.

The temperature at 6am was recorded as 6 degrees C, the second time this year it was this cold.

Doi Inthanon is the highest mountain in the country at around 2,650 meters.

Park chief Pornthep Jaroensupakun said that there was a large influx of tourists who were mostly Thais from other provinces. They have been arriving in hired vans and private cars with some sleeping over on the mountain.

He said that conditions were excellent and that the tourists were able to see the phenomenon of the "Sea of Fog". This is when fog and clouds blanket the area below the eyeline of the observer.

More tourists are expected to arrive for the weekend, said Pornthep.

i recall one christmas a few years back where the lows were reached all over the place.  I was in Pattaya and the poor girls were out there shivering in their little skirts or shorts.  Of course the next night the street vendors were walking around trying to sell long sleeved blouses to the ladies.  But not much were being sold, no doubt because the places didn't want the ladies covered up.

This morning out at 6 to walk the dog and it was just over 20.  Up to about 25 by the time the sun was up and finished the walk at 7

yes I can distinctly remember that. I think it was about three years ago and it's the only time I've ever worn a jacket at night time in Pattaya
