PHUKET:-- The driver of a Toyota Camry that hit a 53-year-old woman when she was initially have said to have been crossing Thepkrasattri Rd on Friday (Oct 21) may not actually be to blame for woman’s death, as a local rescue worker has since posted CCTV footage on the internet which reveals the final moments before the fatal collision.

Kusoldhram rescue worker Natthawut Plukmaidee posted a video clip on YouTube clearly showing the shocking incident on Thepkrassattri Rd where the woman was struck by a car.

In the initial report, 53-year-old Ms Malee Chailek was said to have died instantly last Friday when a red-plate Toyota Camry smashed into her while crossing Thepkrassattri Rd in Thalang.

However, the CCTV footage posted on YouTube shows that the woman first cross the road and stepped onto the raised median strip, she then turns back and goes back onto the road before crouching down, which is when the car runs over her.

She either dropped something & went back to retrieve it or it could  be suicide. Seems like the driver is not blame at all in this although in accidents the driver always gets charged with reckless driving causing death or injury before all the facts are known.

The driver is facing charges of reckless driving ?? Are you serious ?

So if someone jumps in front of your car trying to kill themselves you will be charged !!

"So if someone jumps in front of your car trying to kill themselves you will be charged !!" - and if you are a foreigner, you could end up paying compensation to their family, or going to gaol.

Buy a dash cam.

The most impressively horrifying part of the CCTV footage (see GK10002000's post above) is the fact that no-one, including the driver of the Camry, stopped to check or provide assistance.  What sort of mentality or community awareness creates circumstances where that sort of behaviour is possible? I can remember less than a year ago widespead condemnation of a similar incident involving a child outside a market in China. Apparently much of the condemnation from within Thailand was hypocrisy?

Very common in Thailand though.  People put their heads down and walk away.  You can see post after post of similar things, ranging from deadly car accidents, to open street thieves, to a person getting beaten by a group of people while a whole crowd just moves on.  I have been to the country a dozen times and at times it is simply unfathomable

You would have thought that the Camry driver would at least stop to protect the downed lady from the following traffic. Maybe she was alive, how did the Camry driver know ?  It took him 50m to stop.

Presumable the car was doing around 80 kph so stopping in 50 meters after impact would be a fair distance.
