I'll be flying in to HKT (mid December) for the first time since the new terminal opened, UK - Dubai - HKT, using Emirates as usual.

Any quirks I should know about or is everything reasonably smooth and straightforward?

I'd suggest you ask nearer the time as with the new terminal things can change almost daily

I don't think Immigration will become friendly, helpful or efficient any time soon.

Prepare for a long wait in the arrival hall. 

I just talked to a friend that came in late from China, and he said he was lucky in that there were only 10-15 people in front of him and it was a 35-40 minute wait to clear immigration.  He said he was lucky as a few planes arrived after him and the lines were 100+ deep........ Only a couple counters were open and staffed while other staff milled around and did nothing was his report.

New terminal = Big difference, wait is now much longer, from 30-45 minutes to 3-4 hours

Ask one of the ones milling around for the "express" lane, last time i landed in Phuket it was 200 baht.

When was this? Ebola express lane they closed many month ago.

It was a while ago, cant imagine they stopped doing it though considering how much the cash adds up.

Some other friends of mind did the express lane about a month ago.

In the old terminal it works for me fine with express lane. But in new one till now i had 2 failed attempts.
