BANGKOK: -- Airport Rail Link has adjusted the timetables of the train service from the city to the Suvarnabhumi international airport and vice versa during the weekends to provide more convenience to passengers.

Mr Prasert Attanan, acting managing director of SRT Electric Train Company which operates the airport rail link, said on Wednesday that starting on this weekend, there will be train service every 12 minutes instead of every 15 minutes.

Think you are confused, the old express was like that. But that has stopped now, currently the trains are busy, capacity rising to over 70,000 a day. people use it to commute into the city.

Every time I've ridden the ARL City Line to or from the airport, it's standing room only.

I miss the Express Line, where I usually had an entire car to myself, and always had at least an entire row of seats.  But it was obvious they had to either up the ridership, charge 2000 baht for the privilege,  or stop the service.

Err, someone who has obviously never taken the Airport Link City Line, seemingly not in the last few years anyway.

12 minutes headway is good news. Any slight increase in frequency can only help.

Off topic - any news on stored value cards working cross-system between ARL/MRT/BTS?

Now if only they could have regular taxi service at Makkasan Station instead of having to wait 10 to 20 minutes for one to show up. I know it's a chicken and egg thing, no passengers thus no taxis, but it is a total waste having this huge station that nobody uses. And yes, I often transfer to the MRT there but sometimes I want a taxi.

The airport rail link in HK is brilliant, with a little effort this one could be SO much better. And then maybe they could bring back the Express Trains.

Cross the footbridge, takes 5 minutes and you have no worries finding a taxi.

it is probably the most overcrowded means of transport in all of South East Asia and actually a complete nuisance. If you don't enter at Phayathai during rush hours, chances are you have to wait for 30-45 minutes at any other stop until you can slip in. I know of tourists missing their flights as they were too polite to just push through into the carriages with their luggage and did not cut the line when they tried to hop on the train at Makkasan, for example. The trains should run every 6 minutes and have double the number of carriages. anything else is a joke. This is not an "Airport Express", after all, this is now just another commuter line, and a convenient one as such, as it can cut the travel time for workers/employees from over 2 hrs to less than 20 minutes in many cases
