Pinklao Bus Station ... BTS

Recommended Posts

what is the Pinklao Bus station? Probably the Southern Bus station? If so, there is no BTS stop anywhere nearby. Distance to National Stadium which is probably the nearest stop must be some 5-6 km or so. But a lot of public Buses, AC and non-AC pass the Southern Bus station and usually you can have some luggage with you if it is not Monster-size

Hi thanks, I live in Hua Hin and need to get back  here on Sunday

A few weeks ago all the minivans that used to go to HH from Victory Monument were moved to new locations

It would appear that they now go from the Southern Bus Terminal  and the nearest BTS is Ari, I will be joining the BTS at On Nut

Can anyone please confirm that the Southern Bus Terminal is in the Pinklao area and the nearest BTS Station is Ari?

I think the nearest BTS station would be BangWa which is about 60-80 baht by taxi meter from southern bus terminal.

The "old" Southern Bus Station in Pinklao is still in operation...not to far from Central Pinklao Mall.   But the new Southern Bus Station (actually several years old now) in Khet Talingchan of Bangkok does not have a BTS near it.   The vans you are talking about have moved to the new and old southern bus stations.

I have an in-law who drives a van for a living....he use to do his pickups at Victory Monument up until around two weeks ago when the govt forced the vans out.  For a week or so he was doing his pickups from the old bus station but his company has just moved their vans to the new southern bus station since there were just too many vans going to the old station.  So, vans now leave from both the old and new depending on the van company and locations they service (go back and forth to).   My in-law does a Bangkok--Nakhon Pathom run.

The old and new southern bus stations are less than a 100 baht/10 minute taxi drive apart.

Sai Tai Kao = old southern station in Pinklao Bangkok

Sai Tai Mai = new southern station in Talingchan Bangkok

What is closest by-as the crow flies, says NOTHIng here in BKK. Ever thought about the congested River bridges?

It would also have been much more helpful for yourself and us who try to answer to tell ultimate destination.

You will also have to deal with the well-known utter greedy Taxi-nometer-mafia still reigning SaiThai taling Chan.

Besides; Vans usually let people off at conveneint points (but thats for going INtown), just follow the crowd when that van empties out-they will know what they do for easy connections. Both buses and vans TO SaiThai will-due to how roads allow U-turns- going much further Intown as Sai Thai is-maybe even up to Central Pinklao.

Going TO HHIn from BKK-most likely you have a choice of old Sai Thai (and maybe even the parking lot besides Central Pinklao) and ''new'' SaiThai-for both old-style normal big bus+van. The problem you will face is much more even finding a taximtr willing to go there-they also know about that mafia=no return fees for them.

Indeed that new Bang Wa=new outer and of Silom line, is most lilely the best of the worse choices at the mo-even for citybuses (ring line 146).

At the mo its confusion-but it may very well be that HHin/southbound vans will start using more easy lots along Ram II road=the far southern end of Thonburi, direct into the motorway. You better ask this at the HHin forum if some one has found out already.

Well that's a bit of a rant but anyway, just back to HH and what a nightmare, Ari BTS was not even close to Pinklao, a 45 minute taxi drive (with the meter on) 170 Baht

Myself and one other person in the minibus back to HH, the vans were always full previously when they went from Victory Monument, can't see the new location (Sai Tai Kao)  for the minibuses lasting long

not sure why you're ranting, a quick look at a map would have told you that ari is nowhere near pinklao, and reading the replies here told you there is no bts station anywhere near either of the southern bus terminals. anyway 45 minutes in a taxi for 170 baht seems like a good deal to me. you could have taken a bus but why bother with the hassle for 170 baht worth of a/c comfort and convenience?

There is an article in today's/7Nov Bangkok Post about that the govt "plans" to reduce public van fares by 10% from 1 April, but it's still not in stone because van operators are complaining about reduced business (few people to  fill up vans) since they been forced out of the Victory Monument location to the main Bangkok bus stations.   And many customers are complaining about no pickup being available at Victory Monument.

I mentioned in an earlier post I have an in-law who is a van driver and drives the Bangkok- Nakhorn Pathom router...and up until a few weeks ago his end point in Bangkok was Victory Monument.  Daily he made about 500 to 700 baht; now that his end point is the Sai Tai Mai (new southern station) his daily income has dropped to around 350 to 400 baht....and when his company changes the end point to Sai Tai Kao (old southern station) he makes around 400 to 450 baht per day since it's a few kilometers away from the new station and his copany pays him a little more per trip to the old station vs the new station.

Now when he was doing the run to Victory Monument he made around 700 baht per day since the company paid him significantly more per trip since he had to go deeper into Bangkok.   He got fewer total runs per day by having to go from Nakhorn Pathom to Victory Monument (central Bangkok) than now in only being allowed to go to one of the southern bus stations in western Bangkok, but when the dust setting between number of total runs per day, basic amount paid per run, and extra he earned from fuller van and baggage tips, he came out much better pay-wise by being able to go to Victory Monument to pickup customers.

Yeap, when it comes to how van operators are paid its based primarily on what their company pays them per run, how many back-and-forth runs they can do per day, and baggage fees.   Some back and forth runs from X to Z and just more profitable than other back and forth A to B runs.   So, if you think van operators make a lot per day, they don't!!!....most likely it's around Bt300 to Bt500 (before deductions) for a long day starting from around a 4:30am wake-up to go to work....be at work by 6am and your back and forth runs will run around 12 hours per day at least....not uncommon to work 15 hours per day in making that average 300 to 500 baht....maybe up to around 800 baht per day if you have a good run locations.   And the work week is 6 days per week if the company is nice enough/large enough to work-in one day a week off by switching driver weekly work schedules around....otherwise the work week is 7 days and you squeeze in a day off when you must have it, get sick, a major holiday occurs, etc.

As I said in one of my posts there was myself and one other person in the minibus travelling back to HH, that won't even cover the cost of the gas, I have travelled by minibus to HH numerous times from Victory Monument and don't ever recall the van not being totally full

The whole place, (Sai Tai Kao) was deserted, this will not only affect the drivers but tourism as well plenty of Thais travel to HH on the minibuses for a holiday

A complete cock up by the Government on this one

It's obviously too late as you have done your trip but Ari is is no way closer or useful as a BTS exit station. N1 Ratchatewi near Phetchaburi rd would be technically the closest and definitely most useful.

However, your best bet is to take a 511 or 79 BMTA bus (orange aircon) from Petchaburi rd near Ratchatewi BTS direct to the bus station. The 511 also runs along Sukhumvit (then Ratchprarop rd in front of Central World) then left in Phetchaburi.

As for vans, you might find that there are still vans running to HH from Century Mall which is located at the south end of Victory BTS station. I haven't actually checked since the change but that is private land and there are a number of destinations from Century. This is where I always used to take HH vans as there were every 20 mins. Also,  30m north of there past the 7/11 is a van company with a large parking garage but I only caught vans to Kanchanaburi from there.

The govt's goal was to help reduce traffic jams in Bangkok, like around Victory Monument where the many vans just helped to clog traffic flow.

Now Sai Tai Kao (old station) may have been deserted when you got there but it's still fairly busy for some large commercial bus companies but the great majority of buses/vans now leave from the Sai Tai Mai (new station) and it definitely a busy place.  Just a few hours ago the wife and I drove my since it pretty close to our home and there were more mini-vans than we've ever seen.  The station has always had some mini-vans but now it overflowing with mini-vans.  But of course both the old and new southern stations are in western Bangkok you first have to get there.

Yea, I don't deny a location in central Bangkok would be good for mini-vans to start from, but hey, taxi drivers are happier now as they now make more more/have more customers in taking people to the southern bus station.

I have a friend who lives in HH, when he comes to Bangkok, and returns, he usually takes the bus that goes to Swampy, the BTSes in from there.

Hi yes I've heard about the Airport bus, some of my friends use it

However a long journey, minimum 3.5 hours, when I go to BKK I go to On Nut, so could be looking at around 4.5 - 5 hours with the BTS ride from the Airport

Before 3 hours on the minibus (sometimes quicker) to Victory Monument a 50 meter walk to the BTS from the minivan station and then 15-20 mins to On Nut

Everyone, Thai and Farang are looking at extra cost and journey time with the new minibus location which is a complete pain in the ass to be honest, I arrived at On Nut BTS at 3pm on Sunday and arrived back in HH at 8 45 pm due to the extra journey time on both the BTS and taxi to get to the new minivan location

I can see less people travelling to BKK and back to HH and vice versa due to this location change

Hi I know this is a big ask but if you are in the area again can you get this company's number and PM me if they are indeed still running from there to HH?

Thanks in advance

Sense prevails on this subject, took a minibus from Hua Hin to BKK last week and they went to Mo Chit, a lot easier to connect to the BTS than from Pinklao
