ozmeldo Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 I have a nice pair of Italian shoes with leather soles that have developed a crack/hole. Does anyone know where I might get these repaired properly in central Bangkok? I've contacted Don's, awaiting a response but the shop is quite inconvenient for me. He appears to be charging b1500 for soles and heels. It's not out of line, but these shoes really are not worth that to repair despite the uppers looking new. Yes, searched the date. Lots of dated info. Please do not tell me I need only go into the street and... thanks. Thank you
tonray Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 I am not sure what your issue is with street cobblers but many do excellent work. The guys (a team of about 3 supervised by the boss) work outside of Suttishan MRT (exit 3 ?) and do very solid work. But to each his own.
KhaoNiaw Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 I've used these people for re-soling but they do all kinds of repairs too. They'll give you a quote first so you can decide if you think it's worth it or not. Three Shoes
lopburi3 Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 All you need to do is go onto the streets - really. Although they most often are just fixing low quality shoes they are aware of the better made types and can repair them - and take great pride in doing so.
ozmeldo Posted November 12, 2016 Author Posted November 12, 2016 So you think they can resole and stitch leather soles not glue some B50 rubber / plastic slab and call the job done? Leather and stitching? I've no issue with street cobblers, used them for years - just not sure they are up to this task. Thanks for the link.

tonray Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 If you do not want to pay 1500 baht, you 'may' have to accept lesser materials. In reality I have no idea what they will use, but I do know that I have brought 3 pairs of footwear to them and they have successfully extended the life of said footwear, irrespective of what materials went into it. Is that not the objective ?
gdgbb Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 It can pretty much be guaranteed that a street cobbler will not be using stitched on, or any other type of leather to sole shoes. Go with what you've been offered and if B1500 is too much perhaps the shoes aren't worth a leather repair and you should go for glued on rubber slab.
